A groundbreaking ceremony for the American Legion Family Cabin was held Sunday at Camp American Legion. The cabin’s use will be geared primarily for those family members who have lost a loved one while in U.S. military service. Don Grundy, camp director since 2017, said in his opening remarks “we’ve talking about this cabin since I started here. We’ve been talking about this project a long time and its meaningful on a lot of levels.” Pictured, from left, are Richard Rieck and  Larry Ripinski with Squadron 355 of the Sons of The American Legion; Gold Star parents Jackie and Mike Birschbach; Lakeland Times news director and Gold Star father Brian Jopek; Jim Chapin of the Wisconsin chapter of the veterans group Forty and Eight; Wisconsin American Legion Riders president Tim Hyma; Chris Sherman, president of the Wisconsin Sons of the American Legion; Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary president Char Kiesling and Frank Kostka, commander of the Wisconsin American Legion.
