The Boulder Junction Lions Club presented a $300 donation to Lakeland Union High School sophomore Lauren Gardner to help fund her spring 2019 Spanish class trip to the Dominican Republic.
The class trip is both for personal growth and to provide humanitarian assistance. The students fly into the capital city of Santo Domingo and visit other neighboring cities during their seven-day excursion. While in Santo Domingo, they will live with host families to be fully immersed in the language and culture of the country.
The students will explore historical, cultural and recreational attractions. Part of the trip will also be spent doing humanitarian work in the small town of La Piedra.
The Boulder Junction Lions Club feels it is important to donate funds for class trips to help our local students further their education and explore areas outside the Northwoods. When Gardner returns from her trip, she will be presenting a travelogue to the Lions Club membership.
