The fifth annual Lions Club Joe Manzanares Fundraiser Golf Scramble was held at Tahoe Lynx Golf Course in Mercer on Friday, Aug. 10.
Fourteen teams vied for top honors with perfect weather conditions for this nine-hole event.
The overall and men’s category winners were the Ironwood team of Chris Golembeski, Tom Talaska, Jack Fiamoncini and Corey Streeter with a score of 6 under par, 29.
They were followed closely by the Manzanares team, Joe’s sons, Joe, Mark and Mike, and his granddaughter’s husband, Matt Konoske, with a score of 5 under par, 30, setting up some competition for next year’s 18-hole event.
The mixed category winners for the second straight year was the team of Dick Fryar, Roger Hinterthuer, Kelly Kohegyi and Dennis McKenzie.
The women’s category winners for the fifth straight year was the team of Joe’s wife, Joyce, his daughter-in-law, Stephanie, and two granddaughters, Hailey Konoske and Heather Sbraggia.
Lions Club chairman Erik Torkelson thanked his kitchen chair Louise Minisan and her husband, Dave, for their tireless efforts on behalf of the many Lions Club projects, their Santa Claus endeavors, food pantry and the many other volunteer projects that they do, saying that Joe Manzanares was all about service to clubs and community.
A delicious barbecue pulled pork dinner and all the trimmings was served. Torkelson then thanked the entire Lions team on hand: Thomas Jazdzewski, Bill Brundage, Glen Doxsee, Max Ackerman, Mike Chamberlain, Louise and Dave Minisan, June Brunell, new Lion, Lynn Langhoff, and his other committee members, Deanna Pierpont, Kelly Kohegyi and golf course worker Pat Wonderling. He spoke about Joe Manzanares’s character, service and respect and recognized his many family members.

• Hole 4, longest putt, men, Bill Brundage
• Hole 5, closest second shot, Joe Manzanares
• Hole 6, closest to pin, Will Engels
• Hole 7, closest second short, Tom Talaska
• Hole 8, longest drive, ladies, Cathy Conrad
• Hole 9, closest to pin, Tom Talaska
The 50/50 winner was Brenda Kastecki.
The raffle prizes were won by Andy Doda, Cathy Conrad, Nancy Levra, Lynn Langhoff, Brian Heleniak, Mike Chamberlain, Brenda Kostecki, Mark Manzanares, Dennis McKenzie, Jack Albright and Joe Manzanares.
The smart TV was won by Bill Trcka.
