Joseph "Joe" Cobb, 72, of Lac du Flambeau, passed away peacefully surrounded by his children, family and companion on Feb. 16, 2018 at Johnson Lake Adult Care Center in Woodruff.

Visitation was on Thursday, Feb. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bolger Funeral Home-Woodruff Chapel. Catholic Mass with full Military Honors will be held on Friday, Feb. 23 at St. Anthony's Church in Lac du Flambeau. Father Ronald Serrao will be officiating the service. A public viewing will be available from 9 to 9:45 a.m. The service will begin at 10 a.m. Luncheon will follow in the Parish Hall of St. Anthony's. Cremation services will follow at a later date.

Joseph was born on July 4, 1945 in Hayward, to Joseph F. Cobb, Sr. and Margaret (Doud) Cobb. He lived in Lac du Flambeau with his family. Joe graduated from Lakeland Union High School and enlisted in the United States Navy immediately following graduation. He married his high school sweetheart, Ruth (Stewart) Cobb, also of Lac du Flambeau, and they had three children, Julia, Joseph III and Jolene Cobb. Joe served three tours of duty in Vietnam; he was based in Guam, Alameda, Calif., San Diego, Bremerton, Wash., and finished his final tour of duty in McAlester, Okla. Joe divorced and was remarried to Patricia (Maynard) Cobb. In May of 1983, he retired from the Naval Ordinance Station Indian Head Detachment Army Ammunition Plant, building 567, McAlester, after 20 years of service as chief gunners mate technician. After retirement, Joe moved his family back to his hometown of Lac du Flambeau. He then worked for the Lac du Flambeau Fish and Game Department for 12 years. In Joe's spare time, he enjoyed ricing, spearing, hunting, wood carving, listening to country music and playing his guitar. He divorced and later met his partner of 30 years, Phyllis Werner. Phyllis was his companion and soulmate and remained by his side until his passing.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. Cobb, Sr. and Margaret (Doud) Cobb; nephew, George Cobb, Jr. and brother-in-law, George Christensen. He is survived by his companion, Phyllis Werner; his three children, Julia Mary (Cobb) Smith, Joseph F. Cobb, III (Shana) and Jolene F. Cobb-Wayland (John, Dylan); grandchildren, Alessa LaBarge, Scott LaBarge, Jr., Joseph G. Cobb, Gale Smith, Justin Cobb, Garold S. Smith, Amber Cobb, Shelby MJ Smith, Sky Rising Sun, Darren Rising Sun, Joren Cobb, Jalen Cobb, Summer Smith, Devin Rising Sun; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Linda (Cobb) Christensen, Luella Cobb, Gloria Cobb; brother, George Cobb, Sr. and many nieces and nephews and his Aunt Gertrude.
