  • RASTA looks to the future of silent sports
    The Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association (RASTA) recently presented their five-year plan to the Oneida County forestry committee, and the committee called it an ambitious plan, giving the plan their full support. (subscriber access)
  • Join Northwoods Land Trust (NWLT) staff and a Minocqua Winter Park representative from 1 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 24, at the Minocqua Winter Park Ski Chalet for a discussion of the role the Northwoods Land Trust played in the 3,195-acre conservation easement at Minocqua Winter Park followed by skiing or snowshoeing some of the trails. 
  • The fourth annual Awassa Trails Candlelight Ski, Snowshoe and Fat Bike event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. on Feb. 15, starting at the trailhead behind the St Germain Elementary School. Ice luminaries will line the beautiful, 1.4 mile loop, which is groomed for snowshoeing, fat biking and classic cross-country skiing. For an extra challenge, fat bikers can also ride the unlit 1.7 mile singletrack fat bike loop if they bring their own headlamps.
  • A candlelight ski or snowshoe on the groomed trails at Copper Falls State Park will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. 
  • Minocqua Winter Park hosts a Candlelight Ski from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16.
  • Lakeland Nordic ski shines over two days
    The Lakeland Nordic ski teams took in the 2020 Ascension Hodag Challenge on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 18 and 19. (subscriber access)
  • Discovering the world of cross-country skiing

  • WinMan Trails Foundation, LLC (WinMan Trails), a silent sports venue located 4 miles north of Manitowish Waters on Hwy W, has announced it has entered into a Land Use Agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) that provides access to 917 acres of DNR property. 
  • The 10th annual Loop Around the Lake will be Saturday, Feb. 22, on Lake Minocqua. The candlelit ski, snowshoe and hike event begins at 6 p.m. with food and a bonfire to follow. At 7:30 p.m. there will be a wish lantern illumination at the Thirsty Whale.
  • There will be a snowshoe event held at Fern Ridge Trail in St. Germain from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 18. The event will take place at the new parking area for the trail, 2005 Forest Lane, off of Juve Road. 
  • The Turtle River Pursuit Cross Country Ski event is scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 15 and 16, at MECCA Trails in Mercer. 
  • Believing young and old alike can enjoy winter activities, Fe University will again offer a cross country ski instruction course in four 2-hour sessions, Mondays and Wednesdays Jan. 13, 15, 20, 22.
