I read with dismay the so-called investigative report from Richard Moore (Feingold's clean water bill swims into strong currents of opposition - 9/29/09) opposing the restoration of Clean Water Act protections to our nation's waters.
The wetlands that have lost protection are critical for northern Wisconsin, providing clean drinking water and habitat for ducks and geese - which are on many people's minds this fall.
Moore's piece was pathetically one-sided, citing only those who care little about ruining and polluting our waters for the sake of unrestrained development and irresponsible industrial practice, and presenting nothing but a passing comment on groups that are trying protect these most valuable of natural resources.
Further, had Moore done his homework instead of simply accepting talking points of big business, he would have discovered that many of the concerns that farmers had about the legislation were addressed with the amendment from senators Max Baucus and Amy Klobuchar - and the amended legislation has been endorsed by national and state farm groups, including the Wisconsin Farmer's Union.
It is clear that Richard Moore would rather shill for polluters than worry about the water that we drink and the places where we hunt and fish. As an avid outdoorsman and concerned citizen, I hope our members of Congress will recognize the need for clean water and restore Clean Water Act protection to Wisconsin's waters.
