The hijacking of the Democratic Party

To the Editor:

Here is an excellent quote often popularly attributed to Norman Thomas and sometimes attributed to Ronald Reagan  (the so-called “truth” website, snopes.com, questions the authorship assertion while totally ignoring the factual reality of the quote):

“The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But under the name of ‘liberalism’ they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without knowing how it happened.”

By 1948, Norman Thomas, six-time U.S. presidential candidate for the Socialist Party of America and Gus Hall, four-time U.S. presidential candidate for the U.S. Communist Party, both quit American politics, agreeing that the Republican and Democratic parties had adopted every plank on the communist/socialist platform and they no longer had an alternate party platform on which to run.

Frank Marshall Davis, Communist Party USA (CPUSA) member 47,544 and mentor to a young Barack Obama joined the Communist Party during World War II and was unflinchingly pro-Soviet and pro-Red China. He was the founding editor in chief of the Chicago Star (1946-48) – the CPUSA publication for Chicago – before moving on to the Honolulu Record (1949-57), the CPUSA publication there. Davis lavishly praised Joseph Stalin and vilified the Democratic Party which was opposed to the Soviet Union. Frank Marshall Davis’s politics were so radical, and so pro-Soviet, that the Democrats who ran the Senate in 1956 summoned him to Washington to testify on his pro-Soviet activities. The FBI placed him on the federal government’s Security Index, meaning that if a war broke out between the United States and the Soviet Union, Obama’s mentor could have been placed under immediate arrest.

But after years of trashing the Democratic Party, Davis decided to join the Democratic Party. After finally realizing that he could never be elected on the Communist Party ticket, Davis took the lesser of the available “evils” and glommed onto the most left-leaning party, the Democrats.

Thus the Hawaiian Communist Party went underground, realizing that it lacked political viability. Hawaii’s communists changed their tactics, concentrating instead on the mainstream Democratic Party, even running their members in local elections to seize delegate positions. One of those who not only urged this tactic, but was himself elected to a Democratic precinct was Frank Marshall Davis.

With that, the gradual hijacking of the Democratic Party was on. This began a long march to transform the Democratic Party from the party of Truman and JFK to the party of Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama. And Frank Marshall Davis, as a “Democrat,” would go on to influence today’s Democratic Party standard-bearer: Barack Obama.

Unfortunately Obama has totally contradicted and reversed the meaning of JFK’s immortal words:

“My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”

In contrast, Obama says to Americans:

“Demand that your government gives you free housing, free food, free transportation, free education, and freedom from having to work for life.”

I am proud to admit that I voted as a Democrat for JFK in 1960, but I am now horribly frightened by the fact that the Democratic Party of 1960 has ceased to exist; however, millions of Obama closed minded sycophants will still vote for anything falsely labeled “Democrat.”

Now 52 years later we find that for the first time in our nation’s history, this election will decide whether the United States will continue to exist for our children and grandchildren.

Nov. 6 may be our last chance.

So Obama was lying in Dreams From my Father?? "It made me smile, thinking back on Frank and his old Black Power, dashiki self. In some ways he was as incurable as my mother, as certain in his faith, living in the same sixties time warp that Hawaii had created." You racists!

WOW is all I can think of saying. Where do these people come up with this stuff. There is absolutely no evidence that Obama knew, or even followed, Frank Marshall Davis. Yet the writer presents it as fact, even going as far as saying he was a "mentor." Then he falsely quotes the President when the President never said anything of the sort. It is like McCarthyism all over again. At the beginning he says that the quote is "factual reality." It is an opinion, nothing more. One persons lame attempt to influence a few ignorant, non-committed voters. Not even Hannity or Limbaugh are spewing garbage like this cause they know it's not true. I would truly like Mr. Boyd to cite his sources for this information.

Another Fox News surrogate(?) or maybe he's just dressing up for Halloween a bit too early.

Either way, this fella has way too much time on his hands.
My suggestion would be for him to actually read and then correctly interpret political history.

He sounds like Romney and believe me, if that shallow suit gets in, Nov. 6th would have been our last chance.

Eisenhower and Nixon Republicans no longer exist. We're left with Limbaugh/Hannity endorsed, Tea Partiers, who are obstructionistic, and won't compromise with anyone left of Rand Paul Ouch!

Charles, I don't know your frame of reference for labeling folks, "socialists".

I would comment, Ronald Reagan's agenda spun very little Economic Growth, compared to the policies of Bill Clinton. Neither were Socialists. In fact, our greatest economic growth was under Pres. Bill Clinton. He was a moderate. However, he worked with Republicans and our Economy flourished I think that's the path and we need to avoid extreme, obstructionism only that will foster economic prosperity.

This letter to the editor brings us back to the McCarthy era of the 1950s. It states that some obscure figure from the past radically influenced President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and the rest of the Democratic party. The author goes on at great length about his mystery figure, but presents no evidence of the alleged "mentorship" relationship. He just slides in a little bit of Joe McCarthy and guilt by alleged association.

The author goes on to put quotation marks around words that he falsely attributes to President Obama. Mr. Boyd, if words are not a quote, don't make them appear to be so through the use of quotation marks.

The author says he proudly voted for JFK, but says the Democratic party of the 1960s no longer exists. To the contrary, the Democratic party of today embodies the same values held by previous progressive leaders like JFK and FDR. This the same party that has always fought for middle class working people. It's the same party that brought us Social Security and Medicare.

Finally, Mr. Boyd labels the millions of people who will vote for President Obama as "closed minded sycophants". Labeling and Insulting people who disagree with you seldom enhances your arguement. Just ask Mitt Romney about his 47% quote.
