To the Editor:
I read the Oct. 9, 2012, article in The Lakeland Times on the teacher being disciplined for the Chief Shortcake math problem and said it myself, wow!
The reason I said wow was maybe different from what other people looked at.
I saw fourth grade math problems.
My question is why is the high school teaching fourth grade math? LUHS reports that the average grade level is higher now than it was in the past years. Is this why? Fourth grade math?
What happened in fifth, sixth, seventh and eight grade?
No math classes? Or did the school system fail our children?
I just hope that this math class was for freshmen and the students didn’t have to use a calculator to get a passing grade.
