Waiting for Rep. Duffy's answer

To the Editor:

We have a very straightforward question for Congressman Duffy: Will you vote for the tax cut for the middle class?  Yes or no. We would like your answer.

There are over 700,000 residents in our “re-organized” 7th District and the median income of many families in the 7th is about $39,026 (from Ask.com. modified Nov. 16, 2012).

Given our current economic issues, how many of us could really live comfortably on that income?

Apparently even Congressman Duffy would have a problem with it because he said a year or so ago that he was finding it difficult for his family to live on his Congressional salary of $174,000 a year.

Here’s an idea. Congressman Duffy: Why don’t you be very brave and begin to find ways to work with the Democrats? Forget giving more tax breaks to the very rich and seriously look for intelligent solutions. It will take real cooperation and hard work and not fly-by-night solutions like raising the age of Medicare recipients.

Raising the Medicare age from 65 to 67 has a very dark side and turns out to be a complicated change that bears financial trouble starting even in the first year.

Two examples: People who are 65/6 will need to carry their work insurance until they turn 67 ... this will cost their employers added dollars for two more years. Medicare costs will rise for those who are 67 and older because you are now having to care for older people with more health issues ... the 65/6 people’s younger, better health issues won’t be there to help the spread the percentages.

All of this is on the table as we speak and this is why we want a direct answer from you today, Congressman Duffy.

Yes or no.

We are waiting.

That's all Rep. Duffy does speaks for himself ONLY.

Do you watch or read any news? If you did, you would know that the tax cut referred to is an extension of same (Bush imposed) for 98% of working Americans, those making less than $250K annually.

FYI it's actually been at the center of debate and your side's obstruction for months now.

Congressman Duffy can speak for himself, but I would ask these letter writers to which specific bill in Congress are you referring when you ask your straightforward question "Will you vote for the tax cut for the middle class? " There are a lot of proposals in Congress, and unless you can refer to specifics, these "straightforward" questions aren't so straightforward.
