Letter of rebuttal concerning an ABC survey, gun laws

To the Editor:

This is a letter of rebuttal to a letter written by Mary Kubinek that was in The Lakeland Times Jan. 22, 2013. She quotes a survey done by ABC news. If that is the only station she listens to then she isn’t getting the whole story.

The reason I say this is because ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN and MSNBC are more liberal stations and only will tell what sounds good to them and not the whole truth. They support Obama and there are a lot of things that they don’t report because it would make him look bad. They only want to make him look good to the public. When the above came out with poll numbers, I have found that they contact more Democrats than Republicans, therefore their polls are more one sided.

Mary goes back to when the Second Amendment was drawn and saying that times have changed. Yes, they have. We have more people and along with that comes a higher crime rate. Cities with very strict gun laws have very high crime rates – look at Washington, D.C., and Chicago.

It sounds like she is for banning all semi-automatic weapons. There is a scare out there about the AR-15 being an assault rifle. The ARs that the public can have are just semi-automatic rifles like many rifles and shotguns used for hunting and recreation and also many handguns used for personal protection. There are a lot of politicians and people crying wolf and don’t know one gun from another.

Diane Fienstein just introduced a bill to ban all weapons. What makes it so hypocritical is that politicians are exempt and also the people that protect them. Homeland security made the statement that the AR-15 is the best for personal protection. Diane Fienstein later admitted that last year only 38 people were killed with an AR. My sources, Fox News and The Blaze.

The question I have, are their lives any more important than mine? No! I place a very high value on my life.

Another thought on this subject: If firearms were banned and the burglar was at your door with the thought in mind he was going to get you, he would get you before you could give all the info to the police on 911.

Get rid of the law that says Gun Free School Zone. What kind of message are you sending? Also the signs that read “No Guns Allowed.”

The lawmakers should make it easier to identify the people with mental illness. Almost all of the mass shootings were done by someone who had a mental problem.

I know this doesn’t address all the gun problems, but it is a start.

Question: Would Mary Kubinek put a sign on her house, “There are no guns on this property?”

Mr. Lee -- you state that "Diane Fienstein just introduced a bill to ban all weapons". The bill she introduced would ban all assault weapons. I hope that was just a typo on your part and not a result of you believing there is only one true news source.

Well, if you only listen to the Fox News network and Rush Limbaugh, then you would view all other news outlets as ultra liberal. How did you find that the Major Networks contact more Democrats than Republicans? Was it from the NRA sites on the Internet? Everyone knows that every thing you read on the net is true, don't they?

As for the control of guns, why don't you put up a sign saying "I've got a lot of guns here". That will tell the criminals where to break in to steal them, when you are out of your house. 99.9% of all break ins occur when the house is empty.

As for the Second Amendment, it says "the People" which means the arming of the several States, not individuals. This was done to eliminate the cost of a standing Army, not to allow the eventual over through of the Government that they had just formed. The Supreme Court has ruled that an individual person can own a firearm and keep it in their homes for protection, not that you can carry a firearm, loaded and openly, among your fellow citizens. It might surprise you to know that it also applies to Federal laws only and not to the several states that can enact such laws as they deem necessary for the protection of the citizens from the threats that firearms pose.

The thing is that there is no assault on the Second Amendment. This is a straw man put up by the firearm and munitions manufactures. By scaring the pants off hunters and collectors, they have tripled their sales numbers and jacked up the prices.

Finally, when does your "Right" to carry a firearm outside of your home supercede the right of a child to live?
