To the Editor:
Editor’s note: This letter was originally penned to Rep. Swearingen, but is published here at the request of the author.
Rep. Swearingen, as an informed voter and constituent, I want to let you know that you let me down.
Your vote in favor of the Open-Pit Mining Bill placed the requests of an out-of-state mining company over the health of future generations of Wisconsinites and Northwoods tourism.
The statement in your newsletter, “I believe that the Northwoods is one of the last hidden gems in the state. The Northwoods’ pristine lakes and beautiful forests attract thousands of visitors each year” is obviously just rhetoric.
I am deeply disappointed that your action goes against your supposed belief.
In the future, I hope that you will more carefully weigh the decisions that so deeply impact our health, our lakes and streams, forests, and our tourism economy.
