To the Editor:
Everyone please read the article about the Mercer School District and the tax levy increase – then read it again – then cut it out and put it where you can read it every day – at least until the tax levy comes up for the Arbor Vitae-Woodruff referendum.
Then think before you mark the yes box. Think hard about the cost of AV-W buy out for their retired teachers’ contracts. This is one big reason they are always in trouble for money.
Turn around and Nicolet College is also looking for a tax levy referendum. It will never stop unless we vote no, no, no more money.
Money is a Band-Aid for the problems we have allowed to grow and fester in our school systems. If one word like “replace” can cause such a disaster in Mercer, I am not ready or able to be in this kind of tax war with a school.
Please, please, vote no on all referendums and make the school boards, the superintendents and principals come up with some answers on their own.
We have five grade schools in our area: AV-W, MHLT, St. Germain, North Lakeland and Lac du Flambeau. That means five superintendents, five principals, 16 office staff – give or take – eight secretaries – give or take – then add Lakeland Union High School ... another superintendent, principal, vice principal, secretary, everyone has one, and office staff. That’s a lot of money in a small area.
If one technical teacher can job share, why not others?
AV-W needs a new security door? Lock the one you have and have an “office” person get “up” to answer the bell.
Really? Everyone is that busy?
It’s time for AV-W to smile, close the doors, and filter into other schools.
