To the Editor:
The North Lakeland Discovery Center held its first annual WinMan Windigo Snowshoe Stomp this winter at a newly opened 1,200-acre silent sports trail system, located on the border of Winchester and Manitowish Waters. It was a gorgeous sunshiny day in the Northwoods, and a good time was had by adults and children alike. A 1K “Beat the Windigo” run found kids chasing Windigos through the woods, and stories around the campfire along with chili, beer, and great raffle prizes kept all busy following the race.
We would like to thank the sponsors and volunteers that enabled us to provide a high quality event that we are sure to repeat. Thanks as well, to the Town of Winchester for the use of the Town Hall and for the wonderful support from the Winchester Emergency Medical Services team. They eased our minds as well as those of the racers, further ensuring a safe and fun event for all.
With successful events of this nature, our area gains positive attention and enthusiasm and brings the added benefits of increased tourism to our businesses. We could not host successful events like this without the giving and caring community for which we are blessed! Thanks again to all.
