On Gov. Scott Walker

To the Editor:

Since Governor Scott Walker and the Koch brothers took over Wisconsin government, Walker has been investigated twice. Six of his staffers were incarcerated following the first investigation. The second investigation is still in progress. Median incomes in the state have dropped. The economy is lagging far behind most of the nation. Tax breaks for the poor and the elderly were cut, while tax breaks for the wealthy and rich corporations (Koch brothers, Wal-Mart) were promoted. They cut vital funds for public schools while millions of our tax dollars were given to corporate schools with no accountability to the community.

Walker and the Kochs refused federal money to expand Medicaid forcing tens of thousands of low income families to fend for themselves. They refused federal money for a high speed rail system, eliminating over a thousand potential jobs because they would have been union jobs. They have attacked unions, the poor, the elderly, and women. They insist on disenfranchising thousands of voters to protect us from the lie of voter fraud. They restricted first amendment for unions and other citizens groups. They restricted citizens access to justice through the legal system.

Walker claims to have balanced the budget (depending on whether he is talking to the press or to the federal government) but is planning to borrow $2 billion for his highway projects. Rather than return a supposed surplus to the schools or pay off part of the money he plans to borrow, he gave it away as tax breaks, the majority of which went to the wealthy and his rich contributors.

The list of damages to our state which Walker, the Kochs, and Greedy corporations have inflicted on Wisconsin goes on and on. These are just a few of the most glaring examples. We cannot move forward with a governor who jumps and runs when his rich contributors call on the phone. We cannot tolerate a governor who advocates for the rich at the cost of everyone else. We can do better.

Wow, those "Koch brothers" Doug writes about must be some pretty powerful, all controlling guys, to have so much sway over Gov. Walker and the State of Wisconsin! Specifically, just how do they do that? How much money have they given to Walker, Wisconsin PACs and so on. What are the facts to back this up?. And how, specifically, do their contributions match up to others, like those of unions and other political PACS and such? The "Chicago Democrat Machine Way" seems to be evident here, along with all the other character assassinations and demonizing now so routinely and freely used, rather than quote facts on issues. I live near Chicago: Compare Chicago and Illinois to Wisconsin situations some time: want to trade? Wisconsinites should appreciate what they have! And, I believe, the Koch brothers were #59 in national political giving, the unions were in the top 5. Please give us facts, and don't just demonize folks, even if they have money!
