To the Editor:
It seems that the VA can only get bad press these days; however, I chose to believe that the caregivers are doing the best they can under a tremendous workload, and it certainly appears that the problems are limited to a portion of the medical centers, not all.
I am not a veteran, so there would seem to be no reason for me to deal with the VA in any matter, but you just never know.
A short while ago, a good friend of mine, a WWII veteran, had an increase in medical issues. His friends discussed ways to help him, and I got stuck with investigating his options. By good luck, I called the Veterans Service Office in Eagle River first. That is as far as I had to go to find him assistance.
Those folks stepped up and did all they could to help our veteran, personally visiting him at his home and helping him with forms and information, and he knows they are there to continue helping him as need be.
Deb and Mike, you have our deepest thanks, we can only hope all of our veterans find people like you to assist them.
