To the Editor:
I would like to give my input. I am referring to Linda Worbel’s letter in regard to the statement of a physically handicaped daughter and senior citizens experiencing the forest not being reason enough to allow ATVs in Vilas County.
Apparently she has never had a daughter lose a leg to cancer at the age of 14 or had a hip or knee replaced in her senior years. God bless her.
What about our disabled veterans who gave their limbs for the love of this country? You want to deny them access to the great outdoors and the ability to enjoy what others can. What kind of person thinks like that?
Did she not hear the testimonies of supervisors at the meeting stating facts and data or did she only hear what she wanted to hear?
The referendum was 10 years ago. Referendums do not represent the 38,000 taxpayers in Vilas County of which only 15,000 are residents.
Therefore a more accurate representation of public feelings was stated at the Vilas county meeting on July 22 by the phone calls and letters that the supervisor received with 60 percent pro-ATVs and 40 percent anti-ATVs.
There are 71 of the 72 counties allowing ATVs. There will still be silent sports in Vilas County. Can’t we all get along?
