On Obama and impeachment

To the Editor:

After reading the letter from Ron Lowe in the 8-8-14 edition of The Lakeland Times, and after I stopped laughing, a few things came to mind: (1) The mind of a liberal is a terrible thing to waste, and (2) “Where ignorance is bliss, ‘tis folly to be wise” (Thomas Gray).

Volumes could be written on why Obama should be impeached. Unfortunately, that will not happen because he would be an instant “martyr,” and give the left more excuses to demonize Republicans.

The fact is that is was Democrats who began floating around the impeachment rumors to fire up their left base and to raise money for the Democrats that will likely be out of work come the mid-term elections.

Thinking about the Nixon-Watergate Congressional hearings 40 years ago, resulting in Nixon’s resignation, what a different world we live in now.

There were standards for a president then, Nixon was not above the law, as Obama feels he is. Nixon was guilty of wrongdoing of course, but at least he had the integrity to resign when the game was up for him.

The man we have in office now took the Oath of Office, and vowed to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution. Mostly what Obama has done is try to get around the Constitution. His game plan is what I call “deliberate incompetence.” He knows exactly what he is doing, but enjoys playing the victim of the Republicans.

He knows too that his presidency has failed miserably, so all he has to do is coast the next two years, and leave the mess he has made of the country to someone else, just as Obama blamed Bush for doing, but on a much larger scale.

If Richard Nixon were alive today he would be thinking... “How does this guy stay in office?” Good question.

Mr. Lowe stated that Obama has “repaired the economy.” Guess I missed that. We have 40-plus million people on food stamps. The only jobs being created are part-time, largely due to the Obamacare debacle he is forcing on small businesses. Unemployment is about the same as when Bush left office.

We are nearing an $18 trillion national debt, a nice gift for the future generations to deal with.

Obamacare is nothing at all as he said it would be. He promised 40 million would be insured; they crow now about 8 million, and many of those already had insurance or went on Medicaid. Many are going to pay higher premiums and many will pay higher deductibles.

New emission rules? Yes, new and unnecessary. Obama panders to the eco-terrorists who want to shut down coal mining and will not allow the Keystone Pipeline; both of those are killing jobs and making us more dependent on foreign sources.

With what is happening overseas, will we have any sources left there to rely on in the future?

What we have is a rogue president who blames everyone but himself and has no leadership. He picks and chooses which laws he will follow and which he will ignore. His people in the IRS target conservatives and the CIA spies on people in the House.

When the going gets too hot at home, Obama finds a golf course, a photo-op, or a Democrat fundraiser to attend.

It is not possible for him to defend his record – it is indefensible. He can deny being a socialist, but his actions belie his words.
