Kocovsky's Garden of Evil

To the Editor:

The author of the letter to the editor titled "Response to Meinert" has hit a new low for tasteless comments regarding Gary Meinert's work along the Arizona border where he observes, photographs, and reports his findings to the border patrol. Character assassination might be a better word because he defines Gary as a "poseur," a wannabe, a person who pretends to be what he is not, who puts on airs and derives self importance from association with people who have authority. He also claims Gary is self-promoting, has made self-serving allegations, and all but calls him a liar.

Dan Sheaves' article in the Santa Cruz Valley Sun mentions Gary graduating from the Border Patrol Citizen's Academy, and quoted Border Patrol agent Richard Funke as saying the graduates, "can be an extra set of eyes and ears." This confirms Gary's role as an observer along the border and proves the border parol appreciates help from guys like him.

The author has down played the more than 100 lectures Gary has given to audiences by claiming he speaks to, "like minded conservative thinkers." This is not true. I attended his presentation in Boulder Junction where several left-wingers showed up prompting the need for a police presence. They were needed because one of the more intolerant lefties threw a comb at Gary, then ran for the exit like a little girl.

When he wasn't dodging combs, Gary was constantly being interrupted by a guy named Tim who, like Gary, lives up here in the summer and in Arizona in the winter. Gary was more than familiar with Tim because he and other left-wingers were regular attendees at his lectures in Arizona where they were just as obnoxious.

However, to be fair, I also attended Gary's presentation in St. Germain. The audience was polite, asked intelligent questions, and there was a pleasant exchange of comments between Gary and members of the audience. There wasn't any violence, nor interruptions and catcalls, so there's a pretty good chance there were no left-wingers present.

The author also questioned Gary's claim to have been an expert witness at a court martial concerning a border incident. He seems to think Gary is lying because he can't find anything about the trial on the internet. As a former army officer who testified at one court martial and was a member of the jury on another, I can tell you I am not surprised to hear this. Unless a case involves a general officer, or draws major interest, such as the espionage trial of Bradley turned Chelsea Manning, members of the press aren't going to cover a court martial because most of them are quite boring, except for the accused. But if the author still wants to see Gary's testimony all he has to do is contact the leakers in Washington and tell them that releasing Meinert's testimony would embarrass Trump, and he would get his hands on a copy in a jiffy.

The author claims Gary has never had a personal conversation with Arizona governor Brewer, has never briefed a congressman about the border, and just toured Sheriff Joe Arpaio's tent city rather than met with the man. Unless the author is a little mouse hiding in Gary's shirt pocket, I have to wonder how he would ever know if Gary ever conferred with these people or just nodded his head to them when their paths crossed.

I think we need to take the time to take a look at how the author gathers information for his rants. He admits to being a news junky, subscribing to a dozen periodicals, watches TV, and has two browsers that allow him to troll the internet. He tends to conclude something couldn't possibly be true if it can't find it on the internet. Since the governor of Arizona, a congressman, and Sheriff Joe didn't post, "I had a meeting today with Gary," he jumped to the conclusion that Gary made the whole thing up.

I think most would agree that this guy isn't so much a news junky then (sic) he is a nerd who needs to step away from the computer, come out of the basement, and get a life. He would probably be amazed to learn than it's actually interesting to meet people who are different from himself and have different opinions that can be discussed rather than cause him to be disgusted.

The author of "Response to Meinert" also questions Gary's claim about Somalians with terrorist ties crossing the border. Warren Richey's article "Are Terrorists Crossing the US-Mexican Border" answers that question with a resounding "Yes," and he even names members of ISIS from Somalia who have entered our country by way of the southern border. Joshua Gillin's article "Terrorist Other Than ISIS Crossing the US-Mexican Border," warns us of the gang-bangers and drug cartel members entering our country illegally.

The author has even stooped to the level of being a race baiter by labeling people like Gary as the "secure our borders and rid of the brown people crowd." He loses all credibility when he does that because it proves he can't make an intelligent argument for his opinion, so he resorts to taking cheap shots by suggesting anybody who favors legal immigration and a secure border is a racist.

Since the author has defined Gary as a "Poseur" I did some thinking about a word that describes the actions of an insignificant person who tries to build himself up by cutting other people down, and the word "carper" comes to mind. A carper is someone who constantly criticizes in a petty way, a perfect description of what the troll from Hazelhurst does for entertainment.

The author of "Response to Meinert" mentioned having a lifelong passion for gardening. I find this to be ironic because a garden is the perfect metaphor for his life, a place where he can get down in the dirt and spread manure. I'm sure he's a very good gardener. I wonder if he specializes in raspberries and grapes of wrath.

Well done Mr. Van Hoozen!...Gary like any American that doesn't bow at the altar of liberalism, socialism and the free flow of illegals, MUST in the minds of leftists be accused of and referred to as being "Racist and Bigoted"

Special loathing by the open border gang is reserved particularly for those who volunteer to assist as they do in helping to keep America secure and it's LEGAL citizens safe at what is supposed to be a legal and secured border which was originally designed and properly funded to perform as one.

And Gary my friend...Just keep doing what you're doing, your critics and other liberal detractors have exposed themselves for what they truly are. And as for the "Author" as Bruce politely refers to him... He is worthy of special recognition, as just another locally well known Michael Moore wannabe.

Thank you, Bruce, and to all of you who sent me supportive emails and who stopped me on the street as I walked my dog.

The most often question asked was why anyone with an ounce of cognitive skills would attack 12 things which could easily be proved?

For the record, I don't know Mr. Kocovsky nor do I read anything he writes unless someone tells me that my name was mentioned.

Best regards, Gary
