A letter to fellow Americans

To the Editor:

Dear Americans,

Every day we Americans (on the average) kill a hundred of our fellow Americans - and our legislators, afraid of an organization which worships guns, often weapons of war, and our government do little to end the slaughter.

It has nothing to do with the hunting, of course, which almost all Americans support. It has everything to do with gun misuse, but, united, we can change that.

Would you really object, if it saves lives, if:

1) You were required to register your guns with the local police?

2) Your "weapons of war," if any, were kept only at gun clubs, responsible for their supervised use?

3) You were required to keep all home guns in a locked cabinet, to which only an adult, perhaps your wife, has the key?

4) All legislators were required to state publicly before next year's elections if they will support such attempts to save the lives of your neighbors, their children and perhaps even your family?

Will Strand

Wil your proposals add a few more layers of bricks to the N.R.A. wall. I might suggest that you just focus on the purchase so that its a stronger guarantee that people with a sane purpose and sane present history are allowed to purchase guns. You have to maneuver to avoid the responsive tightenng of the grip on the stock. You cane accomplish and get some things done without touching the electric fence and setting off intrusion alarms.

Food for thought.

Let's spend our time on the real dangers to the public safety. If our insensitive legislators would just confiscate all private automobiles we could save tens of thousands of lives each month.
