'My most valuable resource'
To the Editor:

The Federal tax bill could grow the economy, but it's unlikely. The GOP argues that if the wealthy get a tax break corporations will create jobs.

'Entirely grateful'
To the Editor:

I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, Pastor Steve, Ray and Pat Kirchmeyer, Caritas, and the entire Eagle Brook Church family for the kindness, understanding and generosity they have shown me and my family.

Let freedom rein
To the Editor:

"A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." George Washington, President of the United States.

'Merry Christmas and thank you'
To the Editor:

How beautiful and festive is our little town of Minocqua! From all of the local businesses with their Christmas lights, the decorations on the street and bridge, and the Christmas tree, all adding to making a Christmas-card lovely scene.

Vets and flights
To the Editor:

Everyone has a right to their opinion and no two people see things the same, and so it is for me with Mr. Corrigan's letter, and so here is my opinion for the little it is worth.

A letter to fellow Americans
To the Editor:

Dear Americans,

Every day we Americans (on the average) kill a hundred of our fellow Americans - and our legislators, afraid of an organization which worships guns, often weapons of war, and our government do little to end the slaughter.

DNR dooms deer
To the Editor:

Back in the '60s it took four hunters to apply for a doe tag and deer populations grew. Now, in some counties, one hunter gets numerous doe tags with a license and in others they can buy extras, and the deer population goes down.

Mercer student speaks out against harsh comment
To the Editor:

On Oct. 30, I sat through a School Board Meeting at Mercer School, the school I am proud to be a part of. At this meeting, the members of the board were bombarded with taxpayers who want nothing but for the school to be shut down, that seem to spread false information left and right.

Tax reform not a cure
To the Editor:

Deception and lack of transparency are associated with this tax reform. I watched an interview with a rich C.E.O. who stated we don't need this tax change.

Panel of three county supervisors meet at Minocqua Public Library
Three county supervisors brought county government to life at Minocqua Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 16 at a public event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods. Patricia 'Pat' Voermans from Lincoln County, Bob Mott from Oneida County, and Erv Teichmiller from Vilas County prompted an attendee to comment afterward, "Who would have ever thought learning about county government could be so interesting," while another added "and entertaining at the same time."

'Short of cowardice'
To the Editor:

I'm saddened that with all these multiple gun deaths and the fact that it's ignored and nothing is done to lessen or prevent future deaths. Politicians are puppets guided and manipulated by pro second amendment groups.

Tax plans and negative consequences
To the Editor:

Tax plans being rushed through by Republican lawmakers seem to offer financial benefits to working families, but what is offered with one hand is taken away by the other hand.

'Something that needs to be said'
To the Editor:

This is a hard and rude letter regarding veterans. I don't expect many to agree with it. But I think it's something that needs to be said.

'Time to stand up for us'
To the Editor:

So here we go again ... last year we elected a president who boasted about grabbing women's private areas at will, and now some people are more willing to vote for a pedophile (someone who sexually abuses our children) than for a Democratic candidate. We were once a decent country weren't we?

Reader weighs in on hunting age change
To the Editor:

The great Wisconsin tradition of "deer camp" is here. Our camp is approaching 40 years of benign bravado with stories of old buck camps and the hopes of a new great hunt.

'Before it is too late'
To the Editor:

The history of the Jewish people can be traced genealogically and historically through the Bible, the writings of Josephus and other famed historians, but also, critically important to today's scientifically oriented seekers, through the incredible archeological discoveries of the ruins of ancient Jerusalem and other famous Biblical locations. Decades of digging have produced a treasure trove of exciting findings!

I have not written a letter to you but something happened last night (Nov. 6) that still has me thinking about the wonderful world we live in!

Welcome Putin with open arms
To the Editor:

When the news first came out that the Russians had tampered with our elections by spreading lies on the internet I was outraged. A recent event, however, has caused me to pause in my outrage and rethink how I feel about Russian meddling.

Allowing ourselves to be deceived
To the Editor:

People my age surely remember the quote from the comics page character Pogo: "We have met the enemy, and he is us." That bit of wisdom applies to the discussions about Russian meddling in our Presidential election and the roles of Facebook, Twitter and other social media.

Why?
To the Editor:

Why can one man continue to torture an entire community with his incessant noises five, sometimes six days a week, all day long from 7 until 5?

Support for the Mining for America bill
To the Editor:

Mining has a long, proud tradition in Wisconsin. Some say the state mascot, the Badger, was deemed so as many Wisconsinites at the time were miners who lived in caves like badgers - near the mines' working faces.

Response to Bada letter
To the Editor:

We agree it does not rain CO2 on Earth. Dr. Bada should read my letter more carefully before throwing quotes around he says I attribute to Dr. Roy Spencer (The Times, Oct. 27, 2017).

To the Editor:

Our country is divided about the symbols that represent us and the substance of what makes us Americans. You are all respectively right and this conversation is wrong.

Trump and patriotism
To the Editor:

I have a question for Donald Trump. What's worse: kneeling down during the national anthem or dodging the draft to avoid military service to the country you claim to so honor and respect, along with its flag and anthem?
