Duffy supports or troops

To the Editor:

The Democrats are running completely false ads against Congressman Sean Duffy and his record shows exactly the opposite of what they’re saying.

The Democrats falsely claimed that “Duffy voted against making sure our soldiers got paid.” The fact is H.R. 1363, the bill cited, was an appropriation bill that, in the event of a government shutdown, would have fully funded the Department of Defense (including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan). [Brian Montopoli, “House passes one-week budget bill; Obama vows veto,” CBS News’ Political Hotsheet (April 7, 2011)].

Rep. Duffy voted for H.R. 1363. Therefore, Duffy voted for making sure our soldiers got paid even if the government shut down.

Second, the Democrats falsely claim that “Duffy voted against increasing combat pay.” H.R. 1540 was the Defense Authorization Bill for FY 2012. According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, it would have “raise[d] basic pay for all individuals in the uniformed services by 1.6 percent.” [Congressional Budget Office Cost Estimate, “H.R. 1540, NDAA for Fiscal Year 2012” (May 20, 2011)].

Rep. Duffy voted for H.R. 1540. Thus, Duffy voted for increasing combat pay.

Third, the Democrats falsely claim that “Duffy voted to protect his own pay.” In fact, Duffy helped to author H.R. 3835, a bill to freeze Congressional pay which passed with strong bipartisan support (309-117). Additionally, he is a co-sponsor of H.R. 1012 which cuts pay for members of Congress by 10 percent.

Looking at the facts it is clear that Duffy not only talks the talk but walks the walk.

I would go on Radio Free Wisconsin and check out what Vets think of Sean Duffy.
Sean Duffy also voted to zero out funding for job training and funding to Job Centers, just when the unemployed, including returning Vets need these programs badly. Coincidently, those programs cost exactly the same as the tax subsidies he voted to save for the Big Oil Companies. After that vote, he had the hypocrisy to put his name on the annual Job Fairs in Wausau (held by the local Job Center) to pretend he cared about the unemployed.
He actually stole a Job Fair in the Fall of 2011 that was set up especially for Veterans and their spouses, opened it to the public and called it the Sean Duffy Fall Job Fair.
He has voted in lock step with the obstructionist Congress in saying no to anything and everything that would have helped his constituents including the Jobs Act. Anything to keep the economy in the tank to achieve their goal of making President Obama a one term president, this man has voted for.
He walks the walk alright.
