Bashing the bill
To the Editor:

I would like to comment on Dave Noel's letter in the Sept. 12 Lakeland Times, "What the Heck is Sulfide Mining and why is Tiffany's New Mining Law Bad for Northern Wisconsin?"

'Preserve our clean waters'
To the Editor:

June of 1996 I attended an informational meeting about the possibility of a sulfide mine near Crandon. I knew nothing about sulfide mining, but through the years I had gotten the feeling that mining companies left a mess when they were done.

The 'Red Pill'
To the Editor:

Originally this started out as an article about six political parties. That is where I will start. Currently there are six political parties in our country. Most have blurred lines between as politicians seem to have a hard time telling the truth even about the political party they support.

It's nice of us
To the Editor:

A tax surcharge to help cover the costs of hurricanes Harvey and Irma is a decent and fiscally smart idea, seemingly.

Response to Gaulke letter
To the Editor:

In reference to Mr. Gaulke's response to my editorial, if he and the Town of Lac du Flambeau would like a reply from me, I am willing to offer up the following:

The Town of Lac du Flambeau does not own/nor manage, the water treatment lagoon near Moss Lake.

'Political mischief'
To the Editor:

Political mischief is afoot in Wisconsin, especially in the person of state senator Tom Tiffany. Nicknamed Toxic Tom, Tiffany's raked in over a million dollars, 70 percent from out-of-state donors (wisdc.org). Yup.

Baffled in Boulder
To the Editor:

This past Tuesday (Sept. 12) I was privileged to be a part of the Boulder Junction Electors meeting which addressed two important issues in our town.

Exercise equipment in parks
To the Editor:

I just received the latest issue of AARP and in it they had an article on exercise equipment in parks.

Hold your ground
To the Editor:

We are again faced with Tiffany attempting to dig up the state for profit and greed. Remember that our biggest assignment is to protect the earth not exploit it. When do we learn to draw the line?

Reader responds to Moss Lake issue
To the Editor:

I read with considerable interest the problems the people on Moss Lake are having. I can pretty much assure the people on the lake that they will receive lip service and not much else.

Tri-County executive director responds to recent coverage
To the Editor:

My name is Shellie Holmes; I am the executive director of Tri-County Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.

'Thank you, Boulder Junction'
To the Editor:

Thank you, Boulder Junction, for attending last night's (Tuesday) special meeting of the electors where the binding decision to split the clerk/treasurer's position and make it part-time was on the agenda.

'The DNR has satisfied their goal'
To the Editor:

On Aug. 31, 2017, the DNR hosted an open house at Arbor Vitae to present their 2017 NHAL Master Plan proposal to the public. It was encompassing and included ATV, bike, campground, etc., changes.

What the heck is sulfide mining ...and why is Tiffany's new mining law bad for northern Wisconsin?
To the Editor:

A few weeks ago I shared a letter that I had sent to Senator Tiffany pleading for him to not introduce his proposed legislation repealing the 20-year-old moratorium on industrial (sulfide) acid mining.

LdF chairman responds to letter
To the Editor:

Regarding the recent letter to the editor by Jane M. Allen with her concerns over the leakage of the sewage treatment lagoons. The town of Lac du Flambeau does not own nor do we operate the water and sewer systems or have control of the operation.

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

Thank you
To the Editor:

We, the youth and adults of the Boy Scouts of America Venture Crew #564, would like to thank all of you who donated to our past aluminum can drives, scrap aluminum and copper collections and our vehicle, marine and lawn equipment battery collections.

'Do their part'
To the Editor:

I was reading in The Lakeland Times about the town board and the discussion about buoys.

Tuesday, September 12, 2017

'What do you say?'
To the Editor:

Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are unspeakable tragedies. They also provide an ideal chance for our country to discover a fundamental truth: When government takes an action, sooner or later we have to pay for it through our taxes.

Lobby Senate for an Increase in NIH Funding for Alzheimer's Research
To the Editor:

According to the Alzheimer's Association, there are more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's disease, including 110,000 here in Wisconsin.

'Sitting out'
To the Editor:

Another day in the USA ... you sit down and relax, wanting at lease for a few hours, to put aside the insanity of what is happening in America and watch the NFL or NBA. And then, there it is ... the national anthem is played and some players "sit out," in a disgusting and shameful display of anti-Americanism.

Food for Thought
To the Editor:

I recently enjoyed going to my class reunion for the first time and being able to surround myself with those that I shared a large portion of my life. It was comforting to be amongst them once again.

Friday, September 8, 2017

Just a minute
To the Editor:

Let's think about this new mining bill for a minute before we embrace it, and let's look at recent mining bill law changes. Senator Tiffany had the mining company write the last mining bill he jammed through, and that was going to create a pile of jobs in Northern Wisconsin.

Kudos to Wildwood Wildlife Park
To the Editor:

Although I have lived in the Northwoods for 28 years and love wildlife and animals, this past week was my first trip to the Wildwood Wildlife Park west of town on Highway 70.

'The once remarkably clean waters of Moss Lake'
To the Editor:

The dense pine forests and pristine, calm waters of northern Wisconsin brought my family to Vilas County in 1962. I learned to water ski along the shores of Fence Lake at a wonderful American plan resort, then owned by Bill and Muriel May.

Our community pantry
To the Editor:

Ruby's Pantry has refused our request to come back to Eagle River. As we told our communities, April Kugler and myself, Genie Ramage-Gruhn, are not giving up on the idea of bringing back our pantry.

'Silence is acceptance!'
To the Editor:

Silence is acceptance! So it is time for all of us, including myself, to shout it from the rooftops that there will be zero tolerance towards any person who espouses or supports the propagation of racism, bigotry and dehumanizing attitudes towards anyone, and any peoples' groups no matter what their race, religion, sexual orientation, or origin of birth in this country.

Voice (silence) of the Northwoods
To the Editor:

I have not observed any acknowledgement of the events in Charlottesville, Va., by Wisconsin's "Newspaper of the Year."

Tuesday, September 5, 2017

Foxconn
To the Editor:

I find it highly ironic that some of the folks complaining about the incentive deal for Foxconn, cite the long time it will take to break even, while at the same time attaching to their objection something else they'd prefer we spend the money on; items with often few financial breakeven possibilities.

An unadulterated attack
To the Editor:

In this missive I wish to inform the readers that the letter to the editor, "The Times Makes a Gross Blunder" has absolutely no relationship to the quality of The Lakeland Times or their proofreaders as the author insinuated.

'What a surprise'
To the Editor:

What a nice surprise! I'm back in the Northwoods for a couple of weeks. I find that something I did 8 or 9 years ago was being discussed by John Kocovsky and Mr. Van Hoozen.

Raft building 101
To the Editor:

I never thought the author of (the letter) "Where do you get your information" was very worldly, and he's certainly not the brightest bulb in the building, but I'm beginning to think someone needs to check the loose nut on his keyboard operator. I say this because whenever he promotes left-wing talking points he either cannot bring himself to tell the truth, or is blinded by the facts.

Plum Lake District
To the Editor:

We write to correct inaccurate and untrue statements about the proposed Plum Lake District made in a recent letter to the editor ("Adoption of a Plum Lake District will disenfranchise the majority of taxpayers") opposing formation of a lake district to address the threat of aquatic invasive species in Plum Lake.

Tootsie Roll Drive - A Community Success
To the Editor:

Once again this year, out community residents, along with our summer guests, helped us to achieve our goal with our annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll drive to help those with intellectual disabilities, thanks to their overwhelming generosity. We are very blessed to have so many understanding people in our Lakeland area.

The Times Makes a Gross Blunder
To the Editor:

The Lakeland Times, Minocqua, Wisconsin had an article August 18, with the headline "Where's the Benjamins?"

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

Foxconn in an alternate universe
To the Editor:

The impending Foxconn deal makes me nervous. Politicians say it's for my own good, so I'm doubly nervous. What could reassure me?

Tuesday, August 29, 2017

Where do you get your information?
To the Editor:

Why is it that some people, if challenged about their loose use of facts, take immediate offense and instead of putting forth proof of their assertions resort to name calling?

Friday, August 25, 2017

Thank-you Mr. Kelley
To the Editor:

First of all, "Thank-you," Mr. Kelley, for your service to Our Country in the Marine Corp.

An Open Letter to President Trump
To the Editor:

Dear Mr. President,

A real President transcends party politics and limitations. A fake President reduces himself to the lowest level.

Friday, August 25, 2017

I'm vouching for Gary Meinert
To the Editor:

As a rule, I do not suffer fools gladly. Most often, they know not what they say and, generally, they are uninformed/misinformed and disingenuous. In this case I am making an exception by responding.
