President Trump's secret plan - and the MSM is silent
To the Editor:

Most normal people, except the MSM and Democrats, know or realize that President Trump plays the MSM and the Democrats. Right from the beginning, just look at all the free press they gave him during his campaign.

'Someone please explain'
To the Editor:

Please could someone explain this?

My first concern when I read the article about the "Lakeland Airport" was why did they need a "courtesy car"? For what? For who?

'Famous for his lies'
To the Editor:

Isn't it disheartening that our nation's children and grandchildren learn that George Washington, our very first president, was famous for his honesty and they now learn that Donald Trump, our 45th president, is famous for his lies?

Losing environmental protections
To the Editor:

The raid on the waters of Wisconsin under Governor Walker and Republican legislators continues.

A recently proposed bill would allow approximately one million acres of wetlands regulated by Wisconsin law to be developed without a permit.

Wisconsin wetland protection is under discussion
To the Editor:

Currently, the state legislature is discussing two bills, AB457 and SB600, both of which would remove restrictions on wetland protection in Wisconsin. These bills would exempt nonfederal wetlands from permitting requirements.

Childhood poverty in Wisconsin
To the Editor:

Senator Orrin Hatch had this to say in December about the Children's Health Insurance Program (which he helped to create): "The reason CHIP's having trouble is that we don't have money anymore."

Friday, January 12, 2018

Thank you
To the Editor:

On behalf of the Lakeland Sharing Foundation Board of Directors, we would like to take the time to thank all of the individuals, businesses, churches, service organizations, banks and schools that donated their time, talents and money that enabled us to make our 2017 Christmas Distribution a huge success.

Generosity and gratitude
To the Editor:

Generosity is defined as, "the quality of being kind and generous; or the quality or fact of being plentiful or large."

'The pursuit of happiness'
To the Editor:

Richard Moore's articles are always refreshingly truthful. If you want to check out biased reporting just subscribe to the Price County Review, the Ladysmith News or for that matter the mainstream media, not that I'm recommending them.

Richard Moore's fake news
To the Editor:

I readily understand Gail Nardi's dismay about Richard Moore's concept of newswriting. Had Mr. Moore been in a class taught by me or other members of the faculty at the University of Iowa School of Journalism and Mass Communication, he would have been lucky to scrape by with a grade of D.

MSM and ethics?
To the Editor:

Reader questions The Times and ethics?

Please excuse me for laughing. Questioning The Times ethics? A difference between news reporting and opinions? Apparently, someone does not realize MSM (main stream media) is mostly opinion and even that may be giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Donald Trump's accomplishments
To the Editor:

Without a doubt and with good reasons, there are many who have more than just a hard time with President Donald Trump. He has created repeated offenses in his language and his demeanor that are inexcusable and frankly baffling given that he is also a smart human being.

Drive us about or drive us out
To the Editor:

In recent stories about the Northwoods Transit Commission, an important point has been missing. This service has become a lifeline for many of us in the Lakeland area.

Tuesday, December 26, 2017

Reader questions Times' editorial
To the Editor:

I enjoy reading the "Northwoods Almanac" column published in The Lakeland Times. I recently read the article titled "Wolf Bill" by John Bates published on Nov. 24, 2017.

Tuesday, December 26, 2017

Reader questions The Times' ethics
To the Editor:

The Lakeland Times has an ethics problem. Virtually every media and news organization has a code of ethics or set of standards requiring that the difference between news reporting and opinion be made absolutely clear.

We need to vote for change
To the Editor:

This presidency has been an expensive lesson for the middle class. It is time for us to change Washington for our survival.

2017 tax bill reminders
To the Editor:

Property taxpayers should have received their 2017 tax bills. If you did not receive your tax bill, you should contact your county or local treasurer.

Lights of the Northwoods
To the Editor:

I was skeptical and was lacking in anticipation as I headed to Hodag Park in Rhinelander. That changed with my first glimpse and I was struck with awe.

'Embarrassed and ashamed'
To the Editor:

For the town of Woodruff I am embarrassed and ashamed at the recent dealings with regard to our commitment to Brandy Park.

Deer hunt 2017
To the Editor:

Where have all the deer gone in northern Wisconsin?

Another year I sit here without any venison for the winter! Thanks to the pantry I will get by!

It's about the lakes, not about labels or ideology
To the Editor:

Richard Moore's article on zoning was startlingly ignorant of the real issues at the heart of his ideological tirade: protection of the quality of our Northern Highland Waters.

'Tremendous holiday gift'
To the Editor:

Once again this year, the outside Christmas decorations and lights near the old depot and Minocqua Post Office are a tremendous holiday gift for all of us.

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

'The spirit of Christmas'
To the Editor:

It is his birthday we celebrate.

Tuesday, December 19, 2017

'My most valuable resource'
To the Editor:

The Federal tax bill could grow the economy, but it's unlikely. The GOP argues that if the wealthy get a tax break corporations will create jobs.

Friday, December 15, 2017

'Entirely grateful'
To the Editor:

I would like to thank, from the bottom of my heart, Pastor Steve, Ray and Pat Kirchmeyer, Caritas, and the entire Eagle Brook Church family for the kindness, understanding and generosity they have shown me and my family.

Tuesday, December 12, 2017

Thank you
To the Editor:

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the Manitowish Waters Volunteer Fire Dept., the Vilas County Sheriff's Dept., Little Star Garage, State Farm and the Mercer and Winchester Fire Dept.

Let freedom rein
To the Editor:

"A free people ought not only be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." George Washington, President of the United States.

'Merry Christmas and thank you'
To the Editor:

How beautiful and festive is our little town of Minocqua! From all of the local businesses with their Christmas lights, the decorations on the street and bridge, and the Christmas tree, all adding to making a Christmas-card lovely scene.

Vets and flights
To the Editor:

Everyone has a right to their opinion and no two people see things the same, and so it is for me with Mr. Corrigan's letter, and so here is my opinion for the little it is worth.

A letter to fellow Americans
To the Editor:

Dear Americans,

Every day we Americans (on the average) kill a hundred of our fellow Americans - and our legislators, afraid of an organization which worships guns, often weapons of war, and our government do little to end the slaughter.

DNR dooms deer
To the Editor:

Back in the '60s it took four hunters to apply for a doe tag and deer populations grew. Now, in some counties, one hunter gets numerous doe tags with a license and in others they can buy extras, and the deer population goes down.

Mercer student speaks out against harsh comment
To the Editor:

On Oct. 30, I sat through a School Board Meeting at Mercer School, the school I am proud to be a part of. At this meeting, the members of the board were bombarded with taxpayers who want nothing but for the school to be shut down, that seem to spread false information left and right.

Tax reform not a cure
To the Editor:

Deception and lack of transparency are associated with this tax reform. I watched an interview with a rich C.E.O. who stated we don't need this tax change.

Panel of three county supervisors meet at Minocqua Public Library
Three county supervisors brought county government to life at Minocqua Public Library on Thursday, Nov. 16 at a public event sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Northwoods. Patricia 'Pat' Voermans from Lincoln County, Bob Mott from Oneida County, and Erv Teichmiller from Vilas County prompted an attendee to comment afterward, "Who would have ever thought learning about county government could be so interesting," while another added "and entertaining at the same time."

DECA is grateful
To the Editor:

On behalf of LUHS DECA members, we want to thank a great community in helping us become college and career ready. We are appreciative to all who helped with and attended the 14th annual Tis the Season Craft Show as DECA raised money to attend the Emerging Leadership Conference, participate in academic competitions, and experience educational field trips.

DISCAB speaks out
To the Editor:

My name is Matthew Daily and I have owned DISCAB-Minocqua Taxi for the past 10 years. I am writing in response to the article "Proposed transit program bothers taxi company owners" from the Nov. 17 edition of The Lakeland Times.

'Short of cowardice'
To the Editor:

I'm saddened that with all these multiple gun deaths and the fact that it's ignored and nothing is done to lessen or prevent future deaths. Politicians are puppets guided and manipulated by pro second amendment groups.

Tax plans and negative consequences
To the Editor:

Tax plans being rushed through by Republican lawmakers seem to offer financial benefits to working families, but what is offered with one hand is taken away by the other hand.

'Something that needs to be said'
To the Editor:

This is a hard and rude letter regarding veterans. I don't expect many to agree with it. But I think it's something that needs to be said.

Tuesday, November 21, 2017

'Time to stand up for us'
To the Editor:

So here we go again ... last year we elected a president who boasted about grabbing women's private areas at will, and now some people are more willing to vote for a pedophile (someone who sexually abuses our children) than for a Democratic candidate. We were once a decent country weren't we?
