The Lakeland Union High School mounted a rally in the second half but could not get past Hurley, falling 42-36 Tuesday at home. Lakeland got down early, trailing by as much as 16 points in the first half as the Midgets led 28-17 at halftime. In the second half, Lakeland battled back as Leah Van De Loo sparked the Thunderbirds both on the offensive and defensive ends. After the third period, Lakeland had cut the lead to 36-28 despite Hurley hitting a buzzer beater. In the fourth quarter, Lakeland got as close as four but a turnover and layup by Hurley pushed the lead back to six with less than two minutes to play. Hurley was able to run the final 20 seconds of the game as Lakeland tried to foul but could not get to the ball, sealing the 42-36 loss for the Thunderbirds.
