Lakeland Youth Wrestling registration will be held Tuesday, Nov. 12, 6 p.m., at Lakeland Union High School. Registration is also open throughout the season.
The youth program is designed to teach participants the basic moves used in high school wrestling.
No experience is necessary, and participants will wrestle against opponents of their own weight and ability level. Wrestling improves balance, hand-eye coordination and self-confidence, and teaches teamwork.
The program is divided into two groups.
The pre-kindergarten to second grade will meet on Mondays starting Jan. 6, from 6-7 p.m. That group is coached by LUHS head wrestling coach Adam Bremmer.
The third through eighth grade are now meeting on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, from 6-7:30 p.m. That group will be coached by past LUHS assistant coach Mike McClintock.
All practices are held in the Lakeland Union High School wrestling room. Participants should wear T-shirt, shorts/sweatpants, socks and wrestling shoes or other lightweight shoes. Clothing with zippers is not allowed.
The groups will have the opportunity to wrestle on Sunday tournaments locally starting the middle of January.
Registration is $45, and includes a T-shirt, USA Wrestling membership, and plenty of action. Checks may be made payable to Lakeland Wrestling Club.
