The Special Olympic Wisconsin State Bowling Tournament was held at Dales Weston Lanes in Wausau Saturday, Dec. 7. Five area athletes qualified for state by finishing first, second, or third in their divisions in the regional and sectional competitions held earlier in the fall.
Missy Baldwin finished with a first place gold medal while Beau Jorgensen captured a third place bronze medal. Both Deven Harrison and Natalie Schneider finished fourth with Jonathon Erickson coming home in sixth place.
The Lakeland Area Special Olympic bowling program has 21 members and provides bowling activities for people with cognitive disabilities. Others involved in Special Olympic bowling are Steven Bader, Richard Bennett, Charlie Bohmert, Erin Dallas, Jonathon Dayton, Lisa Gilson, Jake Hansen, Nolan Hansen, Haley Jensch, Ben Jerlinga, Joey Jurries, Marisa Molinaro, Jimmy Osborne, Sheila Sherman, David Strid and Phillip Wallace.
Thanks to coaches Brian Baldwin and Jennifer Varsik and all the volunteers who help the program continue. Lakeland Area Special Olympics now shift gears as basketball season begins.
