Several Lakeland Union High School alumni earned podium spots last weekend at their respective collegiate indoor track and field championship meets.
Competing for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquis Johnson found himself on the podium three times at the Division I Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Johnson is the Horizon champion in the 400 meter dash after running a time of 47.75. He also took fourth in the 200 meter dash, running a 22-flat in the finals.
Johnson also ran as part of the Horizon champion 4x400 meter relay team, which took first place. Johnson ran the anchor leg, helping his team finish in a time of 3:17.17.
Competing for the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Bryon Andrews took fifth in the high jump at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships. Andrews jumped 6-3.5 to secure fifth place.
Also at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, Abby Scharbarth, competing for the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse, took seventh in the long jump. Scharbarth jumped 17-6.25 to earn the seventh-place finish.
Competing for Yale at the Division I Ivy League Indoor Track and Field Championships, Delaney FitzPatrick and the rest of Yale’s 4x800 meter relay team took sixth place in 9:00.94.
