1/12/2018 7:25:00 AM Vintage World Championship Snowmobile Derby
The Country Cat Vintage World Championship Snowmobile Derby is held this weekend, Jan. 12 though 14, and the Country Cat World Championship Snowmobile Derby is held next weekend, January 18 through 21, in Eagle River.
The Country Cat World Championship Snowmobile Derby has endured 55 years of the best snowmobile racers in the world competing for the title "World Champion." In the small town of Eagle River, known as the "Snowmobile Capital of the World," this event is the largest winter sports event in the midwest.
What started as a little local event on Dollar Lake 55 years ago, has evolved to a national event with a state of art facility. Surrounding the half mile ice oval track and sno cross course are 14 corporate suites, indoor hot seats for spectators, and a 10,000 square foot heated Expo Hall with an upstairs Loft Bar with 10 flat screen TVs that live stream the race.
The people of this community who take so much pride in this race and who work long, hard hours to make it happen are why this event has become so big and so important to Eagle River. The Boy Scouts and local Youth Group work the food and gate admissions to raise money for their club and the Derby Track is grateful for their many years of volunteering.
This world class event hosts racers from coast to coast as well as many of the Canadian provences. Also see racers from other countries such as Sweden, Finland, Iceland, Japan, as well as Russia.
Come out and see why thousands of people every January make their way to Eagle River.
