The boys’ and girls’ cross country teams kicked off their seasons in dominating fashion Tuesday at the Ted Voigt Invite, with both teams sweeping the individual winner and team winner awards.
The boys’ team was especially dominant, taking the top five individual spots to finish with the minimum 15 points as a team, well ahead of runner-up Merrill with 44.
Senior Andrew Schilling claimed medalist honors, motoring around the team’s new course at Winter Park in a time of 17:51. Rounding out the top five for the T-Birds was Mack FitzPatrick, Will Bodewes, Caleb Anderson, and Kav FitzPatrick.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Lauren Schilling finished in a time of 21:31 to help the girls’ team win the team title with 30 points, ahead of runner-up Mosinee who finished with 51.
Racing without their No. 2 runner Nicole Gilman, who’s out with an injury, the T-Birds still managed to place three of the top four runners at the invite and had five of the top 14. Carley Hintz finished third, Stephanie Balas took fourth, Morgan Courtney was eighth, and Stephanie Johnson rounded out the scoring for the T-Birds by taking 14th.
Both the boys’ and girls’ teams make the trek down to Watertown this Saturday for the Watertown Invitational before going to Mosinee next Tuesday.
