Nordic ski team fairs well at Northern Conference meet

The LUHS girls’ won the Northern Conference Nordic ski meet Thursday, Jan. 28 in Hayward. Pictured (from left to right) are Stephanie Balas, Emily Kubisiak, Nicole Gilman, Carley Hintz and Julia Malicki.

The Lakeland Union High School Nordic ski team couldn't have asked for a better lead into this weekend's Wisconsin Nordic Ski League state championship race. Last Thursday, the team competed in the Northern Conference meet in Hayward with great results, sweeping both the team and individual titles in the boys' and girls' races. (subscriber access)

Not enough firepower
The LUHS girls' hockey team traveled to Antigo on Monday night to face a fierce Northern Edge co-op team of Rhinelander, Antigo and Three Lakes high schools. While the Thunderbirds fought, they couldn't keep up with the quick and powerful Edge squad, losing 4-2. (subscriber access)

LUHS gymnasts remain undefeated in conference
While it may not have been its best performance of the year, the Lakeland Union High School gymnastics team snagged another victory on the road Monday night, defeating Chequamegon 115.75-108.725 in Park Falls. The win pushed the T-Birds to 3-0 in the Great Northern Conference Small division. (subscriber access)

LUHS boys' swim team ready for GNC meet
To say the Lakeland Thunderbird boys' swim team has had a successful season thus far would be an understatement. At 9-1 in conference duals, the T-Birds have strung together some dominant performances along with some nail-biting finishes such as a recent meet with Rhinelander in which they edged out the Hodags by a single point. The Lakeland High School girls' hockey team traveled to Beaver Dam this past weekend to take part in a four-team tournament.
