While it wasn't always easy, the Lakeland boys' tennis team hurdled through difficulties to end the 2017 season on a high note. It took the challenges it faced head on and found ways through some of them throughout the short spring schedule. (subscriber access)

Lakeland golf takes eighth at state meet
VERONA - Competing in its first state meet in over 20 years on Monday and Tuesday, the Lakeland golf team had a strong opening round before faltering slightly to finish eighth in the state, shooting 692 over both rounds at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona. Madison Edgewood led both rounds to take the state title with a score of 623. (subscriber access)

Lakeland booters win regional title
Lakeland Union High School began its quest in the Division 2 WIAA girls' soccer playoffs on Thursday as the top seed in the region.

Lakeland relay takes state title
Taking 16 competitors to the state track meet, the Lakeland track team came away a winner in one event: the boys' 4x800 relay.

The team - consisting of Darius Diver, Jack Garcia, Kieran Mullen and Kav FitzPatrick - came in as the event's ninth seed, but took the title with a run of 7:55.16. (subscriber access)

LUHS baseball can't hold lead, falls to Mosinee in playoffs
Playing in what would be the final night of its season, the Lakeland baseball team headed to Mosinee on Tuesday night for the WIAA regional semifinal clash between Great Northern Conference opponents. While the two teams split games during the regular season, the Indians overtook the Thunderbirds 7-4, despite Lakeland having a 4-2 lead early on. (subscriber access)

T-Bird track sends 16 athletes to state

COLBY - Heading into regionals as one of the favorites, the Lakeland track teams left proving they were just that. Both boys' and girls' teams took titles Monday night, with the boys topping the field with 188 points over Medford's 144, while the girls earned 125.5 points, with Wittenberg-Birnamwood taking second with 123. Lakeland Union High School softball's first home playoff game in 22 years was well worth the wait.
