To say the Lakeland Thunderbird boys' swim team has had a successful season thus far would be an understatement. At 9-1 in conference duals, the T-Birds have strung together some dominant performances along with some nail-biting finishes such as a recent meet with Rhinelander in which they edged out the Hodags by a single point. 8th Annual Candlelight Ski, Snowshoe & Skate
The North Lakeland Education Foundation presents the eighth annual Candlelight Ski, Snowshoe & Skate from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 19, headquartered at the NL Ice Hockey Hut behind North Lakeland School and utilizing the ice rink and school forest trails.

2016 Wolf Tracks Rendezvous
The 2016 edition of the annual Wolf Tracks Rendezvous at Minocqua Winter Park was held Saturday. The Nordic ski event featured both 42- and 24-kilometer events, with both skate and classic technique divisions. Skiers spanning the Midwest made their way to the Lakeland area to compete in the event.

Ski League state championships with wit and wisdom all his own.

After a number of years at this, my predictions are getting more accurate, dependable, timely, and spot on. Something like predicting the weather, always reliable. It's a bit like picking the Packers for the Super Bowl in August, before Jordy Nelson went down and the O-line imploded. Consistency and stability have their place in the universe.

LUHS gymnasts remain undefeated in conference
While it may not have been its best performance of the year, the Lakeland Union High School gymnastics team snagged another victory on the road Monday night, defeating Chequamegon 115.75-108.725 in Park Falls. Nordic ski team fairs well at Northern Conference meet
The Lakeland Union High School Nordic ski team couldn't have asked for a better lead into this weekend's Wisconsin Nordic Ski League state championship race. Last Thursday, the team competed in the Northern Conference meet in Hayward with great results, sweeping both the team and individual titles in the boys' and girls' races. (subscriber access)
