The North Lakeland Discovery Center invites you to explore their new silent sports winter trail system – the 1,300-acre WinMan Trails.

More than 15 miles of trails are open to the public to enjoy activities unique to the region including groomed double-wide snowshoe, skating and classic skiing, and winter biking.

One of the highlight recreational activities at the WinMan Trails is snowshoeing. Discovery Center staff and volunteers are maintaining five miles of groomed (rolled) snowshoe trails that are wide enough to walk or run side-by-side.

Also available and at varying loop and trail distances are ungroomed, traditional snowshoe trails. The trail system spans more than 1,300 acres, allowing visitors the opportunity to customize their outing to fit time schedules and desired activity types.

More than five miles of ski trails will be maintained for skating and classic skiing. The ski trail system was previously maintained by the town of Winchester into the early 1980s. After some minimal trail work, the system is now back in shape and ready for skiing; however, early in the season, skiers are encouraged to check the website or call before heading out to assure the skiing trails are open, ready, and tracked.

In addition to excellent recreational opportunities, the site offers beautiful views and plenty of nature to explore. The rolling topography of the WinMan site is compliments of years of glacial activity. The location, on the border of the towns of Winchester and Manitowish Waters, houses not only varied terrain, but also a varied and rich ecological diversity. Wildlife sightings and signs this year have included rarities such as badger and moose.

The WinMan Trails are located 3.5 miles north of the Discovery Center, at the intersections of county highways W and J in Winchester.

For maps, trail report information, and permitted uses and amenities, visit WinManTrails.com, “like” North Lakeland Discovery Center on Facebook, or call 877-543-2085.

Following your visit, you may provide trail feedback to trails@discoverycenter.net.

Different sizes of youth and adult snowshoes are available at the Discovery Center for day use on Discovery Center or WinMan Trails for $3 per pair (free to members). Call in advance to assure availability.
