It takes a special blend of crazy devotion to the sport to don a neoprene wetsuit and go water skiing when there is still ice spotting the lake. Tom Teichmiller, Gregg Lindner and Andrew Alesauskas decided that they had what it takes and grabbed some early season wake on April 12 on Squirrel Lake. (Subscriber access)

One fish, two fish

Biologists were busy last week making baseline population estimates of walleye and other gamefish in Kawaguesaga, Minocqua and Tomahawk lakes while the fish are spawning near shore. The population estimates will serve as a starting point in a 10-year study of the Minocqua chain of lakes walleye fishery. (Subscriber access)

Traveling Trails Less Traveled
I’ve always considered time I spend fishing or hunting, as real quality time, even if I only come home with an empty game bag or stringer. However, if I’ve been successful in harvesting something, cleaning fish or game after spending a day with friends and family in Ma Nature’s world is a chore I do not shun, knowing the end product will be tasty, satisfying and healthy.
