Brothers Steve and Mike Seiwert, of Park Ridge and Arlington Heights, Ill. got a special surprise while cruising the trail between Phillips and Hazelhurst Feb. 23.
The Seiwerts came upon a handful of parked snowmobilers watching a small black bear in a tree.
The group of snowmobilers told the brothers that they saw the bear run down the trail and climb the tree after they rounded a corner.
The Seiwerts eventually observed the bear climbing down and running off into the woods, but they had not seen the last of it.
After getting all of their gear back on and restarting their sleds, the snowmobilers rounded the next bend and there was the little bear again.
This time, the bear started to climb another tree, but only went up about 6 feet before deciding to come back down and head off into the woods.
The Seiwerts think it’s possible the bear was out and about on the snowy Saturday because of recent nearby logging activity.
