Wisconsin to nearly double its elk herd

Governor Walker’s office issued a press release Jan. 8 announcing a partnership with the Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Resources that will bring up to 150 elk to Wisconsin over a five year period to boost the existing herd and offer genetic diversity. (Subscriber access)

Study: Coyotes foremost deer predators in UP

In 1985, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources paid $200 for two sheep depredated by wolves. In 2014, the Department plans to pay more than $151,000 for 26 calves, 62 missing calves, 15 cattle, 23 hunting hounds, three pets, six deer, and two sheep. (Subscriber access)
