River Series anglers take on Minocqua Chain for series Championship
The Minocqua chain has built the reputation in the last few years of being a bass nursery. Anglers have waded through dozens of small fish for every tournament keeper they have been able to bring to the scales. This past weekend, however, showed a bit of its former glory as a fishery capable of producing good-sized bass. (subscriber access)

the lake where you live
Before moving to Birch Lake I usually quit fishing for the year after Labor Day and parked my boat in the garage for the winter. September and October weather could be fickle, I reasoned, and with the kids back in school there just wasn't much time for travel to the lakes. (subscriber access)

Fish like a GIRL
Sunday was the last stop of the Upper Midwest Bass Series Challenge (UMBCS) Wisconsin Lakes Division. The points title for the series was all but locked up, but one team was not out mathematically. The problem, though, was they would have to catch over 16 pounds of fish to take away that title. (subscriber access)

Fish like a girl
As an avid bass angler, I do not often pay terribly close attention to other species of fish - other than how bass relate to them, or they to bass. But, when I heard about the "Learn to Fish Musky" class being held in Boulder Junction in conjunction with Musky Daze, I thought it would be interesting to attend and fun to learn more about musky fishing. I was not disappointed. (subscriber access)

Stevens Point brothers win River Series Mohawksin qualifier
The rain held off in Tomahawk for most of the day as the Central Wisconsin River Series anglers fished Lake Mohawksin in Tomahawk. With the waterski nationals going on near Veterans' Park, anglers who opted to head up river found a longer slow, no wake near the bridge on Fourth Street, but it was not enough to hamper their spirits or slow down their fishing. Fish like a GIRL
While anglers cannot harvest walleye from the Minocqua Chain until the year 2020, bass anglers have still been taking advantage of some great fishing there. Many club tournaments are held on Lake Tomahawk/Minocqua every year, but most people would not know that. (subscriber access)

Musky not to blame
"There! See it! Right behind my lure!" I sensed the excitement in my dad's voice as he tried to get me to see my first free swimming musky. Sure enough, two feet behind the yellow bucktail I spotted the dark green, torpedo-shaped fish. (subscriber access)

The scene at the boat landing in Lake Tomahawk on Sunday morning may have looked like any other bass tournament readying for ease off, but for those in the field of anglers, this tournament was anything but ordinary. (subscriber access)
