Applications for the Dr. Henry Ashe Continuing Education Scholarships are available for Lakeland area college students who are pursuing a career in a healthcare field at the undergraduate level.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the number of qualified applications selected, and funds available for the program. Funds are provided by the Auxiliary of Howard Young Medical Center fundraisers and the Auxiliary Gift Shop, located inside Howard Young Medical Center.
Last year, the Auxiliary provided $7,500 to college students pursuing a career in the healthcare field. In addition, two $500 scholarships were presented to two graduating seniors from Lakeland Union High School (LUHS) who plan on majoring in healthcare. This year, the Auxiliary increased the LUHS scholarship to $1,000 per student. Each Dr. Ashe Scholarship awarded is $1,500 at this time.
Scholarship applicants must be graduates of Lakeland Union High School. Eligibility requires that students currently be enrolled in programs leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related majors. Students must have completed one semester of college.
Students may obtain forms by writing to the Scholarship Committee, HYMC Auxiliary Center, P.O. Box 407, Woodruff, Wis., 54568-0470.
Applications are available until Oct. 15, and scholarships are awarded in late December. Questions may be directed to HYMC volunteer coordinator, Kathy Viergutz, at Kathy.firstname.lastname@example.org or 715-356-8677.
