Bring out your inner child or add to your collection with the vast variety provided by Spanky’s Clubhouse in St. Germain. Run by owner Matt Lechner (Resident Superhero), this unique store incorporates collectables from every era and almost every genre to unlock your imagination.
Lechner’s experience in the collecting field includes 25 years owning two collectable businesses in Thiensville, Wis., and Marlborough Mass., both specializing in time-honored treasures.
After deciding to sell both locations, Lechner returned to the Northwoods to teach, but found that the lure of collectables was too good to pass up.
“(The Lechner’s) have had property in the Northwoods since the 1940s,” Lechner said. “This was the place that we would vacation every summer.”
With an affinity for the area and participation in the Monday flea markets, Lechner decided to create his own store offering the eclectic items he has gathered over the years.
Broken into three parts, Spanky’s holds a section devoted to comics and action figures ranging from Star Wars to classic and contemporary Batman figurines. Another section of the store is called, “Mickey’s Mancave,” which holds beer memorabilia, including mirrors, tappers, trays and much more. The last section is called “Darla’s Attic” which is devoted to antiques and other items that a collector would fancy.
“I enjoy meeting new people, and especially having the kids come in,” Lechner said. “We try to keep most of our items inexpensively priced so that people can more readily start or add to their collections.”
“I’m buying in bulk a lot of the time,” Lechner said. “If you go to a large retailer, you’re paying more for less, whereas we have vintage items and a larger variety at half the price.”
Spanky’s Clubhouse is open year-round with summer hours from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 12-4 p.m. on Sundays. Spanky’s Clubhouse is located at 200 East Highway 70 in St. Germain. Look for the big yellow sign, or call 715-617-1260 for more information.
