Blending the rustic feel of the outdoors to your home while delivering a wide selection of vintage pieces around the home only takes a short trip to The Ugly Muskie. Owners Jeff and Pam Miller have incorporated the craft of woodcarving with expanded vintage household and outdoor items to create a refreshing shopping experience.
A chainsaw carver for Cedar Creek Chainsaw Carving and resident of the area, Jeff Miller took advantage of the Boulder Junction area to expand his services and products through a partnership with his sister, Pam Miller.
The inspiration for both the products and services derives from the surroundings that allow for the carvings to stand out.
“All the beauty and trees really flow into the beauty of Boulder Junction,” Jeff Miller said. “I make rustic signs and carve people’s trees at their home if they really would like it.”
To Miller, creating his one-of-a-kind carved art for the customer is both cathartic as well as a relaxing form of expression.
“Carving is a mixture of artistic expression and meditation,” Miller said. “What I am most proud of is the work.”
Creating unique pieces of art for sale is a skilled task that incorporates strict discipline and harnessed control of the craft.
“It takes me about 10 hours to create something like a bear statue,” Miller said. “I don’t pencil anything, I just look and go.”
Such carvings will be shown to the public through presentations planned throughout the summer. Dates and times will be posted as the events approach.
Inside of the store is also a large collection of rustic-themed products that will compliment any home, which are constantly updated through The Ugly Muskie Facebook page. From clothing to furniture, the selection is constantly expanding with affordable pricing and superior quality.
