Leadership Academy in Woodruff will host a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event Friday, Aug. 1, 5:30 p.m.
With a goal of raising $5,000, eight participants will shave their heads to support the foundation’s mission to conquer childhood cancers.
Organizing the event is the leadership project of Noah Buckwalter, 11.
Noah is a two-time “shavee” and wants to get others involved in this important cause.
When the goal is reached, Gary Engels, owner of the Leadership Academy, will shave, too.
Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. St. Baldrick’s Foundation is a volunteer-driven and donor-centered charity dedicated to raising money to fund the most promising research initiatives. The “shavees” shave their heads in solidarity with children who lose their hair in treatment.

You need not be a Leadership Academy student to participate. Noah is hoping for a lot of community involvement.
