Manito Art League announces winners from recent show

The Manito Art League Scholarship committee announced the 2014 Scholarship Awards and workshop recipients during the opening reception and patrons’ night. 

Approximately 700 people attended the 2014 Manito Art League and 97 artists exhibited 233 pieces of artwork that ranged from photography, textile arts, pastels, mixed media and oil to printmaking. More than $550 was raised through the silent auction and a total of 11 scholarships totaling $7,000, plus the Rutherford Radeke Scholarship of $500, was given to artists of all ages.

The scholarship recipients are:

Frances Whitfield, Jeanine Achauer, Kailyn Hagenmiller, Chrystel Paulson, Clara Roy, Jane Schmaltz, Pauline Wittry, Nathan Grebe, Margaret Waukechon and Heather Cihak, Katherine Wendlandt and Joseph Balocca II.

The following awards were chosen by Manito Art Leagues’ judge Diane Budde, associate professor of art at UW-Marathon County, Wausau.

The Best of Show Award was given to Christine Alfery for “At the End of the Day” Mixed Media.

Merit Awards were given to Rita Crooks “Bovine Hangout” Acrylic Collage; Terry Daulton, “Threatened Penokees” in Pastel; Matthew Jacobson’s “Stone Picker” oil on canvas and Dave Kapszukiewiczs’ “Claudett’s Garden,” also done in oil on canvas and Joan Slack’s stoneware, “Two Sisters.”

The honorable mention award went to Rosemary Ahmanns’ photograph “Budda in Gold.”

The following watercolor artists also received honorable mention awards: Mary Gehls’ “The Shelter”; Dennis Robertsons’ “Casa Del Capesto, Cuba”; and Roz Schuettpexzs’ “Cactus Orange Flower.” 

Mixed wood artist Cole Punches “Coffee Table,” along with mixed media fiber artist Connie Washalls’ “Yellow and Blue Make Green,” Wayne Houstons’ Cloisonne Enamel on Silver, and Jane O’Brians’ “Serenade in Blue” done in acrylics also won honorable mention.

The Patron's Preview Award was presented to Dave Kapszukiewiczs’ artwork, “Claudett’s Garden,” completed in oil; on Canvas and the People's Choice Award was Rose Kings’ artwork titled “Resurrect” completed in pyrography.
