There’s nothing better than a fishing trip with the kids. And there’s no better place to take your family on a fishing trip than Vilas County.
With more than 1,300 lakes – as well as numerous family-friendly hotels, motels, lodges, resorts and campgrounds across the county’s 12 communities – Vilas County is a perfect destination for families looking to do a little fishing, whether it’s a guided trip or just a few casts off the dock.
And starting this week, you could win a family fishing getaway of your own by entering the Catch the Action Kids’ Fishing Sweepstakes, which runs through Sept. 15.
To enter, simply visit Vilas County’s website and share a photo of your kids’ big (or not-so-big) catch, as well as when and where the fish was caught, and you’ll be entered to win a family getaway to Vilas County.
The prize package includes a two-night stay for a family of four at Gateway Lodge in Land O’ Lakes and a half-day guided fishing trip with Steve Doyen Guide Service, as well as a $50 prepaid credit card.
Every child will receive a participation certificate, and a gallery of all the submitted photos will be available on Vilas County’s website.
“It’s always fun to see a child’s face when they reel in a fish, and we hope that sharing these photos with our fans encourages families to take a few casts when they come visit us,” Cindy Burzinski, director of Vilas County Tourism & Publicity, said.
“We’re collecting photos all summer long, so you still have time to get out on the lakes.”
Anglers have no shortage of options when they visit Vilas County, which is home to one of the largest concentrations of freshwater lakes on earth. Explore the more than 1,300 lakes and 73 rivers and streams. You’ll find muskie, bass, walleye, panfish and more.
And you don’t even need a boat to fish when you’re in Vilas County; you’ll find plenty of shore fishing spots across the county, from Boulder Junction to the Sayner-Star Lake area. Fishing is also available at numerous lakefront resorts and lodges across Vilas County.
Vilas County also recently announced the winner of its Trail Pro Sweepstakes, which ran through the end of June.
Kevin Baxter of Aurora, Ill., received a Vilas County trails package that included a two-night stay at Mean Arlene’s in Boulder Junction, as well as an equipment rental at Boulder Junction’s Coontail.
The sweepstakes was part of a promotional effort highlighting the area’s silent sports trails that also included the creation of a trails map and a mobile app.
