Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival
The Lakeland area joined the worldwide competitive dragon boat racing community with the inaugural Minocqua Dragon Boat Festival to benefit the Howard Young Foundation on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Torpy Park in Minocqua. The Manitowish Waters Chamber invites all to the August Chamber After 5 on Tuesday, Aug. 23. The MW Airport is excited to host this Chamber After 5 for the dedication of the renovations for the airport. Nearly $2 million went into the renovation of the airport and it looks great. Thanks to mainly Federal and State funding. Only a small amount of MW money went into these fantastic upgrades.

40th annual World Musky Hunt to be held Aug. 25-27 in Lake Tomahawk
This year over 50 past hunters and 21 contestants will gather in Lake Tomahawk for the 40th annual World Musky Hunt. The hunt will run from Aug. 25 through Aug. 27. Contestants will be fishing with their selected Guides on the Lake Tomahawk chain of lakes. We are honored to have an active Military team from the 173rd Brigade Engineer Battalion stationed in Rhinelander. They have served in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

Minocqua/Kawaguesaga Lakes Protection Association Pig Roast and Silent Auction Sept. 3
The Minocqua/Kawaguesaga Lakes Protection Association Inc. will be holding a pig roast fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at Torpy Park in Minocqua.

Pork sandwiches, corn on the cob, chips, soda and beer will be available for purchase. Music will be provided by Gregg Thomas. A silent auction and lake fair will also be part of the event. The public is welcome.

The 12th annual Porcupine Mountains Music Festival will be held Aug. 26-28, 2016 at the Winter Sports Complex (ski hill and chalet area) of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, on the south shore of Lake Superior near the towns of Silver City and Ontonagon.

Three new collections of art are now on display in the Presque Isle Community Library (PICL). On the library walls the beautiful relief paintings of artist Carol Bohn simply glow with color. As an art major in college Bohn was initially attracted to oil painting.

Sunshine for Humanity anniversary party Aug. 20
Sunshine for Humanity is having its 3rd Anniversary Party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 20, 2016. Sunshine for Humanity is a non-profit charity in Eagle River that helps homeless advocate work and help fill out paper work. There is a store behind the building at 1191 Hwy 45 South, Eagle River, where people donate items and get something in return. If you bring a pair of shoes you will get a free ticket towards one of the games.

A weekly Adult Movement and Creativity class with Warehouse executive director and dancer Brittany Beyer from 10 to 11:30 a.m. begins on Monday, Aug. 22. This morning class is meant for all levels of experience and is designed to wake you up and get you in tune with your body. WXPR annual Blues Cruise Fundraiser tickets on sale now
The annual WXPR Blues Cruise down the Wisconsin River leaves the dock at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27. This year's blues artist will be critically acclaimed singer, songwriter, guitarist, and harp player Paul Filipowicz.

Filipowicz is a Chicago native who has lived in Wisconsin for the past 50 years. He has produced nine albums, topping the charts in both Living Blues Magazine and Real Blues Magazine, and was recently inducted into the Chicago Blues Hall of Fame.

The two-hour cruise aboard Wisconsin River Cruises will feature Filipowicz live and includes a picnic lunch and cash bar. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased through WXPR Public Radio 715-362-6000.

Touch a Truck Northwoods enjoyed by all
Many families enjoyed the Plum Lake Library's Touch A Truck Northwoods event held on the library grounds in Sayner on Aug. 7. This free event was made possible by the participation of generous businesses and organizations from around the area that brought their vehicles for kids to climb into the driver's seat and see up close. Lakeland Disposal and Recycling even brought a mini-garbage truck that kids could drive while picking up trash along their challenge course.
