Dr. Kate Hospice Pro-Am Golf Tournament Aug. 28
The 32nd annual Dr. Kate Hospice Pro-Am Golf Tournament is a part of golfing and hospice history in the Lakeland area. The first year, 1985, laid the foundation for a unique event among all golf tournaments with each team consisting of four amateurs led by a golf professional associated with the Wisconsin PGA. This was a winning combination of Hospice and Pro-Am that has set this tournament apart from the rest.

Vilas County Master Gardener volunteers will host a Garden Tour in the Eagle River area rain or shine from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 29. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at any of the gardens. Children 17 years and younger are free.

MW public info meeting
Ken Jaworski, vice-president of planning for the consulting firm Martenson and Eisle, conducts the second public information meeting for the town of Manitowish Waters on Tuesday. The town hired the firm last year to put together its latest comprehensive plan, required to be updated every 10 years. The first public information meeting was held in September of last year. Following Tuesday's public information meeting, the town's planning commission passed a resolution recommending to the town board the adoption of the comprehensive plan. Before the town board votes on the plan, it has a public hearing scheduled for 7 p.m. on Aug. 1, in the Manitowish Waters Town Hall.

Employees for JJ's Acres work Tuesday on a shoreland restoration project on the east side of the U.S. Highway 51 causeway in Minocqua. The project, sponsored by the Minocqua/Kawaguesaga Lakes Protection Association, received approval first from the Minocqua plan commission in August of last year and then from the town board in October. According to Sue Meyer, the secretary for the association's board of directors, conditional approval for the project, completed Wednesday, was also received from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the actual owner of the causeway.

Fewer than 100 of these flying saucer shaped structures were built in the late 1960s and early 1970s, originally designed as an easily transportable ski cabin, this one was used for a period of time as a vacation rental in Arbor Vitae.
