World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration that is observed in more than 175 countries Aug. 1-7.
In 1991, WBW came up with the goal to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. Exclusive breastfeeding yields tremendous health benefits, providing critical nutrients, protection from deadly diseases, and promoting growth and development.
The theme this year is Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal-For Life.
The Oneida County Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will be hosting an event at Hodag Park in Rhinelander Aug. 4, 11 a.m., to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.
The gathering will provide opportunity to meet other breastfeeding moms and supporters of breastfeeding in the community and to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week.
Those who participate will receive a gift bag and a breastfeeding T-shirt will be provided for babies and toddlers (sizes are limited). Participants will also have the opportunity to place their vote in the breastfeeding photo contest.
If interested in submitting a breastfeeding photo of you and your little one, please send the photo, your name and contact information to Oneida County WIC, 100 W. Keenan St., Rhinelander, WI 54501.
Please show your support of breastfeeding and join us at Hodag Park Aug. 4 at 11 a.m.
