4/18/2017 7:26:00 AM Lions District 27-C2 Convention held at Lake of the Torches Casino Conference Center on April 21 and 22
The Boulder Junction Lions Club is proud and honored to host the 28th District 27-C2 Convention at Lake of the Torches Casino Conference Center in Lac du Flambeau on April 21 and 22. What is most significant is that this year is the milestone 100th Anniversary of Lions Club International and the club is expecting 350-400 attendees to come to this celebration. The Lions' vision is to be a global leader in community and humanitarian service.
The Boulder Junction Lions have worked hard to make this year's convention informative, entertaining, and rewarding. One of the highlights of this year's convention will be the Service of Remembrance on Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. This service remembers and honors Lions and Lioness from the district that have passed on during this year which is a very moving ceremony and will be officiated by Pastor Tim Hawkinson. Following this special service, the theme for the "Friday Nite Fun Nite" is the 'Roaring '20s, where the entertainment and dress are fit for that uproarious time in our nation's history. The club is very excited this year to have international director Joyce Middleton as our distinguished guest along with past council chair Connie LeClair-Meyer who will both speak on Saturday evening.
Our keynote speaker for the noon luncheon on Saturday is Lenny Quinn and leader dog Slyder, who have come back again. With "sight" being an important mission for the Lions, Lenny will talk about the Leader Dog for the Blind organization, as well as their new Prison Puppy programs. In the Prison Puppy programs the puppies are trained and disciplined in the prisons to basic behavioral commands before going to Leader Dog for further training to help the blind as a Leader Dog. Lenny will also speak in an informative afternoon breakout session.
The Boulder Junction Lions Club, in connection with the Lions District 27-C2, has put together a complete schedule that will benefit, educate and hopefully entertain everyone including break-out sessions on Saturday, such as: "Women in Lions," "Vision Screening & Training for Children & Adults," a family speaking of their experiences at Lions Camp, a training session for officers, a Strides Walk, Lioness meeting, plus something for the Leos, a Trivia game and Leader Dog talk. Following the afternoon break-out sessions, there will be an elegant District Governor's Banquet on Saturday evening. All Lions, Lioness and Leos are invited to be inspired and attend this once in a life time 100th Centennial Celebration.
