The second annual Lakeland Area Public Safety Day will take place from 10 a.m .to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12 at the 70 West Park Complex in Minocqua.
This event is free to the public and proceeds benefit the EMS Bike Program. The primary purpose of the EMS Bike Medic program is to provide expedient Advanced Life Support response and care to EMS incidents which may occur at special events within Oneida and neighboring counties. These special events include Fourth of July festivities, Beef-a-Rama and Cranberry Fest.
The team is staffed with a paramedic and EMT and will be equipped with all necessary supplies to initiate care, stabilize, and monitor a patient while waiting for the ambulance.
DJ Justin Pitlik will provide music and announcements.
Local emergency service team members will be available for dunking at the dunk tank provided by the Hazelhurst Fire Department. Cost is three throws for $1.
Arbor Vitae Fire Department will provide a Firehouse/Smoke house demonstration and attendees can practice on how to best escape a fire.
Officer Matt Tate and his K9 partner Jennings from Minocqua Police Department will provide K9 demonstrations.
Bus safety tips will be provided by Lakeland Bus Service.
Area fire departments will have assorted games including children spraying the fire hose.
A drone demo will be provided by Newbold Fire Department. Learn how drones are used in aerial reconnaissance, wild fires, missing person searches and much more.
Bake Sale, food and beverages will be available. Donations are encouraged - please label pricing yourself.
Other events include EMS/Fire Dept. recruitment, 50/50 raffle, and fire extinguisher use and practice, provided by Nicolet College.
The grand finale of the event will be a flight exercise, including accident simulation with rescue, Jaws of Life, and air transport by helicopter. This is provided by Kumbier Towing, Spirit Air & Ground, Oneida County Ambulance and local Fire and EMS personnel.
