Minocqua hosts 16th annual Journey's Convention

The 16th annual Journey’s Convention was held June 8 through 11 at The Pointe in Minocqua. More than 700 attended the convention, with a common desire to stay clean of narcotics.

The 16th annual Journey’s Convention was held June 8 through 11 at The Pointe in Minocqua. More than 700 attended the convention, with a common desire to stay clean of narcotics.
For the 16th straight year, Minocqua has played host to the Journey's Convention. The four-day event sees workshops, outdoor activities and live entertainment for those currently in the Narcotics Anonymous program. (subscriber access)

Paws in the Park event fetches success
Travel with pets has increased dramatically in the past couple of years and the Minocqua area, not wanting to be left behind, strove to create a pet-friendly event to drive tourism and community engagement, and the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce created Paws in the Park. Paws in the Park is a pet-friendly event which took place June 17 and 18 at Minocqua's Torpy Park and allowed humans and dogs alike to socialize and compete. (subscriber access)

Area Fourth of July events
Boulder Junction

Tuesday July 4: The Star Spangled Jubilee starts at 12 p.m. on Main Street with American Legion Post 451 gun salute at Veterans Memorial Triangle, followed by singing of the National Anthem. Parade floats line up before 11:30 a.m. on Ada Street. Barb Boston will DJ at the airport starting at 7:30 p.m. with an interactive dance party at 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will be lit at airport at dusk.

Caritas of Eagle River celebrates second anniversary
Caritas of Eagle River, an outreach center in Saint Francis Episcopal Church, celebrated its second anniversary on June 17.

Since opening its doors on June 17, 2015, Caritas of Eagle River has served more than 278 clients, in 1,200 visits, providing mediation with creditors, referrals to other community organizations and modest financial assistance.

LOLA is thrilled to welcome "Piper" Morgan Hayes, 2017 summer dance instructor. Hayes grew up in the small community of Fort Atkinson, and began dancing in fourth grade. In May 2012, she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts with a bachelor of fine arts in contemporary dance. After graduation, she began her graduate studies and earned a master of fine arts degree in dance from Hollins University.

The National Finnish American Festival (NFAF) Cultural Center, also known as Little Finland, is on U.S. Hwy 2, just west of U.S. Highway 51 South.
