The North Lakeland Discovery Center announces The Big Event Under Nature's Canopy, their most popular "FUNdraiser," to take place on Sunday, May 28. Enjoy dinner, entertainment and silent and live auctions. Cost is $50 per person or $650 to reserve a table for 10 and four bottles of wine.

Island Art Walk early registration ends June 1
The Lakeland Area Kiwanis Club wants to remind all artists and crafters the early $60 registration fee for the Island Art Walk ends on June 1. There is still space available, but the $75 rate will resume on June 1 and continue until final registration on July 1.

June 4 at 3 p.m. 3rd annual Support for Sight Golf Outing at Tahoe Lynx Golf Course. Support for Sight is a nonprofit organization created by 10 Lion and Lioness Clubs in Vilas and Iron counties to help people with sight related problems in these counties.

Opening reception for original watercolors by Peg Sandin on May 25
The Downtown Art Place is hosting a public opening for the "Lake Superior, Rocks, My Soul" Exhibition by Peg Sandin, an artist from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. This opening will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on May 25, in the concourse of the Ironwood Theatre (111 E. Aurora, Ironwood, Mich.). The exhibition will run continuously through Sept. 4.

Minocqua Island Swim Challenge returns on June 24
On Saturday, June 24, 2017 over 100 swimmers will compete in the 1-mile or 400-meter open water swim challenge at Torpy Park, in downtown Minocqua. The event is presented by Ministry Health Care, part of Ascension and organized by the Oneida County Public Safety Dive Team with the help of the Minocqua-Lakeland Breakfast Rotary Club. The Swim Challenge returns for the sixth year.

St. Germain Independence Day Parade takes place on July 2
The St. Germain Independence Day Parade, which will take place on Sunday, July 2, will have a "Let Freedom Ring" theme this year. The parade begins at 3 p.m. and will have a Vintage War Plane fly over at the parade start. This year's fly-over is sponsored by the Community UCC Thrift Shop. St. Germain parades draw huge crowds each year, and have a long-standing tradition of including a variety of unique and fun floats.

"Dancing Down the Red Carpet" will be performed in the Lakeland Union High School auditorium at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 20. The performance features ballet, jazz, lyrical, and hip hop dance styles set to famous movie and music award-winning songs. May Minocqua Aglow speakers tackle the topic of sex trafficking May 20
The May Minocqua Aglow Program will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20, at the Woodruff Community Center on Hwy 47. Guest speakers will be Jean and Butch Fitzpatrick of Shared Hope International. The Fitzpatricks are trained volunteers of SHI, a faith-based organization out of the state of Washington dedicated to ending the conditions which foster domestic sex trafficking of minors.
