Asha Jain, the 2014 National Geographic Bee Wisconsin state champion for the second straight year, will participate in the national competition May 19-21.

Asha Jain, a Minocqua-Hazelhurst-Lake Tomahawk eighth-grader, is headed once again to the National Geographic Bee in Washington, D.C., next month for the fifth time in six years as a spectator and the second straight year as a Wisconsin state champion. (public access)

Krueger retires from the Air Force after 23 years of service
After serving 23 years in the U.S. Air Force – flying as a navigator during the Gulf War and as a pilot during Operation Iraqi Freedom, traveling across Europe and working in the Pentagon – Lt. Col. Bob Krueger retired from military service May 22, 2011, and is starting a new chapter of his life.

A ski boom had hit the Northwoods in the year 1956. 

Between Muskellunge and Squirrel hills as prospective downhill skiing sites, it was also a year of community support, volunteers and donations, and excitement for the silent winter sport of skiing.
